Since 1957, Morning Star Boys’ Ranch has provided safe and compassionate residential care to boys in need and their families. Our Residential Treatment Program on the South Hill in Spokane, Washington is home to up to 23 boys between the ages of 6 and 13.

Job Summary:

This position provides high standards of direct care supervision and support, safety, protection, and care of children who have experienced abuse and neglect individually and in group core services.

We are urgently hiring for our day, swing and late night shifts. Full time and part time positions available!

As a Youth Counselor, your job duties will include:

  • Assess and provide for the needs of client served, engage and develop rapport with client from various backgrounds.
  • Demonstrate consistency and behavioral limits through relationship-based interventions.
  • Communicate effectively to solve problems in a collaborative manner.
  • Assist each client in working with a group and handling individual problems.
  • Administer and document behavior management plans; use of verbal and physical intervention with volatile clients.
  • Transport clients, teach and conduct therapeutic groups.
  • Facilitate recreational activities, teach and demonstrate life skills.
  • Group Mental Health work and supervision of client to aid in client’s skill building and social rehabilitation.
  • Write daily progress notes based on training.
  • Communicate with client’s therapist and house staff concerning daily behavior and all other concerns.
. Requirements:
  • Must be at least 21 years old
  • Must have a valid driver's license and current auto insurance
  • Per the Washington State governor’s proclamation, Morning Star Boys’ Ranch is subject to the COVID-19 vaccination mandate. Documentation is required upon hire.

Education and Experience:

  • High school diploma or equivalent and;
  • One year of experience working directly with children or;
  • Two years of social service education may be substituted for the required experience
