We are currently hiring for Brittany’s Place. A Minnesota Safe Harbor shelter, Brittany's Place was designed with input and feedback from victims/survivors of sex trafficking. The welcoming space includes six single-bed rooms, two three-occupancy rooms, shared kitchen, living, and recreation space, and a classroom. Girls receive services specifically designed to meet their needs, address the harm caused by the trafficking, and move them toward recovery and self-efficacy. Services include health care, mental and chemical health services, on-site education, advocacy, and family reunification when appropriate. Brittany's Place staff help girls move to the next step on their journey, locating stable housing specific to each resident's needs, in order to continue the care begun in-shelter.

The Youth Advocate position is responsible for assisting in the holistic case-management support of youth and for developing, supporting and implementing youth programming that is culturally-competent and grounded in positive youth development, harm reduction, and trauma-informed care.

Qualifications:
Age 21, meet the Minnesota Department of Corrections rule 2960 standards for Group Residential Programs and all other applicable agency standards.
Valid driver’s license required
Special Skills:
Culturally competent, strong organizational and prioritizing skills, good written and verbal communication skills; along with basic knowledge of Microsoft Office. Bilingual English / Spanish is a plus. Education or experience in de-escalation techniques and trauma-informed care is preferred.
Duties and Responsibilities* include the following: *

  • Be a positive role model for the youth and resolve conflict in a constructive fashion.
  • Take crisis calls, conduct call screenings, intakes and discharges.
  • Support daily case management goals for the youth.
  • Teach and model the skills necessary to maintain good health through the teaching of healthy eating habits.
  • After training provide passing medication through our Medication Administration policy using proper documentation.
  • Provide concise communication via case notes, staff logs, phone contacts, resident files, medical administration forms, etc.
  • Display teamwork through supportive communication, participation in the development of case management plans and attending staff meetings.
  • Maintain appropriate involvement in daily and recreational activities with the youth through positive role-modeling, sportsmanship and safety.
  • Driving and/or transporting youth as needed.
  • In charge of meal preparation (breakfast, lunch, and dinner) using provided menu.
  • Following resident discharge strip the bed, sanitize the room, and wash the sheets.
  • Assist with maintaining the living room and kitchen clean.
  • Other duties may be assigned
