Position Summary:


Working with minimal supervision, this position selects and applies standard engineering principles and procedures in the design and development of new product/production process or the modification of existing product/production processes. Makes decisions on engineering problems and methods having an important effect on major company programs and customer’s needs. Supports new product releases by designing and implementing new and/or modifications existing designs. May be assigned to multiple large projects simultaneously.


Essential Functions:


  • May be assigned project responsibility for projects involving tooling budgets up to $750,000 and potential annual sales of up to $10,000,000.
  • Responsible for electrical engineering design to meet customer, cost, and quality requirements.
  • Will contribute to creative product conceptualization and Warn Automotive intellectual property.
  • May coordinate multiple large projects simultaneously.
  • Directs the efforts of drafters, designers, technicians or other team members to assure successful project completion.
  • Works with customer’s project engineers on technical details.
  • May be assigned engineering maintenance responsibilities for major product lines.
  • Hands-on work on shop floor as job requires.
  • Responsible for prompt and regular attendance as scheduled.
  • May participate in the Warn Automotive’s selection process as necessary.
  • Accountable for Sarbanes-Oxley compliance in assigned area. Responsible for design and operating effectiveness of internal controls, including a self-assessment and report to management.
  • Accountable for developing and monitoring processes and practices necessary for legal and ethical compliance in assigned area.
  • Problem-solve individually or as part of a group as job duties require. May lead such problem-solving activities.
  • Performs other various duties may be assigned.


Required Education and/or Experience:


  • Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering discipline required.
  • Four to eight years of professional experience with project leadership responsibilities required.
  • Four to eight years of system or product design in the automotive, motor sports, or outdoor markets required.
  • Four or more years of analytical modelling or systems analysis required.


Required Qualifications:


  • Working knowledge of Electronics CAD programs – preferably Altium Designer.
  • Working knowledge of electronics design – electro-mechanical controllers preferred.
  • Working knowledge of electronics analysis tools – SPICE preferred.
  • Working knowledge of PCB lay-out
  • Working knowledge of embedded software (firmware) – preferably C.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Word and Excel.
  • Working knowledge of Electronics Failure Mode Analysis and Test Planning.
  • Working knowledge of Software and Firmaware Failure Mode Analysis and Test Planning.
  • Working knowledge of analytical modelling tools – MathCad preferred
  • Ability to build and debug prototypes by hand.
  • Ability to manage contract design and prototype services.
  • Familiarity with electronics manufacturing and Design for Manufacturability.
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision.
  • Ability to work collaboratively and maintain effective working relationships with co-workers, customers, visitors.
  • Ability to effectively solve problems.
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal and customer service skills.
  • Ability to facilitate activities necessary to a project’s completion.
  • Must have history of impeccable integrity, ethics and fair play.

  • Familiar with electronics, automotive, and environmental standards.

Physical and Visual Activities:
