Job Description

Warehouse Shift Manager (Day or Night)

The Warehouse Shift Manager is an integral part of the Operations Department. This Salary Exempt role is responsible for the direct personnel management for an assigned shift. The overall objective of a shift is to meet the operational needs of the organization. These needs must be at the standards that reflect the quality image and safe practices of Adams Beverages. The Warehouse Shift Manager will work directly with the Director of Operations, Branch Manager, VP’s and ownership.

Primary Objectives

  • Key Job Function to work with and train Employees
    • Train on Safe Forklift driving, How to Build Pallets, etc.
    • Loading and picking techniques with warehouse employees and pickers.
  • Reinforce w/ warehouse employees on how to create/ assign/complete Direct Replenish and Direct Inventory tasks in WMS.
  • Ensure the “Check out” and “Check in” processes are operating in an efficient manner.
  • Implement standards for limiting Breakage trends in warehouse employee functions.
  • Maintain flexibility to deliver on Ad Hoc requests.
  • Responsible for Productivity Improvement recaps and proper completion of all company administrative tasks (i.e.- reducing Pick Errors, measuring cases loaded per man hour, using WMS data, etc.)
  • Interview and Select applicants for warehouse positions.
  • Reinforce High Quality Safety Standards throughout the warehouse.
  • Management of Employee Time Sheets and pay reporting (including variable compensation management)
  • Manage employee schedules and time off requests.
  • Occasional relocation/jockeying of Tractor Trailers
  • Other directives as provided by management.
  • Maintain a safe and clean warehouse at all times

The Warehouse Shift Manager reports to and must work closely with, as well as be in constant communication with All Operation Managers, Branch Manager, VP’s and ownership.

Development of the Warehouse Shift Manager Position

A Warehouse Shift Manager with proper development can expect opportunities to move into roles such as Operations Manager or Delivery Driver Supervisor. Additional opportunities may exist in movement to the Sales Department.

  • Product Knowledge – Must understand the entire portfolio
  • Participates in executive, management, and company staff meetings and attends other meetings and seminars.
  • Safety & DOT Training
  • All relevant safety and machinery training as necessary.
    • Special emphasis on FORKLIFT & Ergonomic training
  • Strong knowledge of Selling Solution Technology (Encompass Mobile, Encompass WMS, etc.)
  • Continued Employee Training programs

Warehouse Shift Manager Requirements

  • Minimum age of 21 years old
  • CDL / Class A License preferred
  • Flexibility in work schedule
  • Ability to handle multiple tasks at one time
  • Above average oral and written communications skills (Interacts well with Internal & External Customers)
  • Average computer knowledge, skills, and experience.
  • Proficient with Encompass Operation Tasks
  • Enthusiastic, Team player interested in positive company growth

Education and Experience

  • Must also have 3-5 years of experience in warehouse management functions or coordination.
  • Completion of some college coursework is expected. An Associate degree is preferred.

The employee is required to lift and manage packaged items of up to 25 lbs. freehanded and over that threshold using an appropriate lift system or lift truck. Vision abilities required by this job include close vision.

These conditions may vary, and the employee will receive adequate training to recognize and avoid hazards that cannot be described as expected. Noise levels can range from quiet to loud.
