Job Description
Provides nursing and medical services to assigned patients according to the Scope of Practice for Nurse Practitioners as identified by the American Academy of Nurse Practitioners OR as a Physician Associate provides primary health care and performs selective medical services under the direction of the Urgent Care Medical Director. In addition to diagnosing and managing acute and chronic illnesses, the Urgent Care Advanced Practitioner emphasizes health promotion and disease prevention; orders, conducts and interprets diagnostic and laboratory tests, and prescribes pharmacologic agents and non-pharmacological therapies.
PRINCIPAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
1. *Commits to the mission, vision, beliefs and consistently demonstrates our core values.
2. *Performs and documents medical history and physical examinations on patients; establishes presumptive diagnosis, which are to be countersigned by the responsible physician; reviews patient records.
3. *Responsible for performing physical exams, order and interpret x-rays, lab results and EKGs to ensure high quality care for patients.
4. *Makes complete chart entries on patient transaction, writes orders and records progress notes, which will be reviewed and countersigned by the responsible physician.
5. *Interprets and integrates data to determine appropriate diagnostic and therapeutic procedures as needed.
6. *Orders appropriate laboratory and diagnostic procedures; keeps physician informed of changes requiring intervention.
7. *Synthesizes data to determine preliminary diagnosis and therapeutic plan utilizing principles of prevention.
8. *Sutures wounds; performs other procedures including closed reductions of simple fractures or dislocations of fingers/toes.
9. Apply and modify braces, splints and other orthopedic appliances.
10. Prepares written prescription orders for drugs and controlled substances; may prescribe medications, including Schedule II controlled substances, in the name of the sponsoring physician, if the authority has been assigned by the sponsoring physician.
11. *Prepares and completes patient AVS before discharge.
12. Review and manage daily tasks, patient callbacks and lab results while on shift.
13. *Triages and manage patients thoroughly and efficiently, maintaining a steady flow to avoid long wait times.
14. Performs independent evaluations and treatment procedures in emergency situations; teaches/counsels individuals regarding follow-up care and activities as needed.
15. Attends required meetings and participates in committees as requested.
16. Advances work knowledge by participating in continuing education in-services, reading periodicals/literature and seeking ongoing development opportunities; maintains professional affiliations.
17. *Complies with CLIA and OSHA clinical safety practices as well as administrative and facility regulations.
18. Performs other related projects and duties as assigned.

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
1. Knowledge of the professional medical practice and care necessary to give and evaluate patient care.
2. Knowledge of organizational policies, regulations and procedures to administer patient care.
3. Knowledge of medical equipment and instruments to administer patient care.
4. Knowledge of common safety hazards and precautions to establish a safe work environment.
5. Knowledge of local, state and federal regulations related to nursing and medical services within practice area.
6. Knowledge of computer hardware equipment and software applications relevant to work functions.
7. Skill in applying and modifying the principles, methods, and techniques of medicine to provide ongoing patient care.
8. Ability to take medical history, assess medical condition, interpret findings and develop plan of care.
9. Ability to prepare and maintain records, written reports, and respond to correspondence using computer.
10. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with all levels of personnel, medical staff, volunteer and ancillary departments including diverse patient populations.
11. Ability to maintain confidentiality relevant to sensitive information.
12. Ability to support and maintain quality improvement initiatives.
13. Ability to work in a fast-paced environment related to changing patient needs including working with patients with acute, chronic and complex disease processes and those who are dying.
14. Ability to interpret, adapt and apply guidelines and procedures.
15. Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
16. Ability to practice proper body mechanics to ensure personal and customer/patient safety.
17. Ability to maintain regular and punctual attendance.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
Current Registered Nurse licensure from the State of Nebraska or approved compact state of residence as defined by the Nebraska Nurse Practice Act required. Master of Science degree in Nursing with current Advanced Practice Registered Nurse licensure from the State of Nebraska required. Certification with the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration for prescriptive authority required within 2 months of hire. Certification as Adult Nurse Practitioner or Family Nurse Practitioner preferred. Prior urgent care experience preferred.
OR
Graduate degree from a Physician’s Assistant program required. Current licensure as a Physician Assistant required. Completion of Bryan credentialing and re-credentialing process required for employment. Certification with the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration for prescriptive authority required within 2 months of hire. Integrated practice agreement with the Medical Director for Urgent Care as required by Nebraska State law is mandatory. Prior Urgent Care experience preferred.
OTHER CREDENTIALS / CERTIFICATIONS:
Basic Life Support (CPR) certification required. Bryan Health recognizes American Heart Association (for healthcare professionals), American Red Cross (for healthcare professionals) and the Military Training Network.
