Job Description
The Medical University of South Carolina Hollings Cancer Center (MUSC HCC), a National Cancer Institute (NCI)-designated cancer center, and the MUSC College of Medicine is seeking an established investigator in cancer health disparities research with a passion for community outreach and engagement to serve as co-leader of the Cancer Control Program. This position is at the rank of Associate or Full Professor. The HCC Cancer Control co-leader will help to direct the research program, working collaboratively within a multidisciplinary group to identify opportunities for strategic growth and development, facilitating interdisciplinary and trans-disciplinary cancer research. Continued extension of the program across the statewide catchment area is vital to the program’s success, leveraging the opportunities through MUSC’s affiliate hospitals and its partnerships, expanding the capacity of the program to address cancer care needs in rural areas of the state. The Cancer Control Program includes 25 research members across 9 departments, with a federal grant portfolio of $3.4 million, and a rating of “outstanding to excellent” during our most recent National Cancer Institute grant renewal. The program has three specific aims: (1) identify risk factors predisposing to cancer development; (2) translate discoveries into evidence-based interventions; and, (3) disseminate and implement evidence-based interventions. Cross-cutting themes include cancer health disparities and tobacco control. Successful candidates will have a doctoral degree in behavioral or populations sciences with a primary focus on cancer health disparities research. Applicants are required to have a sustained track record of peer-reviewed funding and publications relevant to cancer, and to currently hold substantial cancer-focused funding. Evidence of leadership potential and demonstration of commitment to diversity and inclusion through research, teaching, and/or service is especially desired.

The HCC has state-of-the-art clinical, research and shared resource facilities, and is the only NCI-designated cancer center in South Carolina. It encompasses four NCI approved scientific programs in developmental cancer therapeutics, cancer biology, cancer immunology, and cancer control. The HCC offers a highly developed clinical trials office with a growing multi-center trials network and Phase I trials program, as well as a translational science laboratory, robust biorepository and tissue analysis resource, clean-cell evaluation and therapy facility and biostatistics core. The next NCI renewal grant proposal will be submitted in May of 2023.
