Job Description
What You Will Do:
  • Obtains and researches patient insurance benefit information for all aspects of the transplant process, including, but not limited to, inpatient, outpatient, post transplant care, pharmacy, organ acquisition, travel and lodging.
  • Meets with prospective patients and their families to discuss benefit coverage and potential issues. Provides information regarding available sources and potential resources available for the person to investigate.
  • Collaborates with nursing staff, support staff, social work team and other health care professionals to identify and facilitate resolution of financial management issues.
  • Advises patients and healthcare team on insurance and billing issues and options. Serves as a resource for patients and their family members on insurance matters.
  • Obtains all necessary payer authorizations for all aspects of the transplant process. Verifies transplant coverage and other medical benefits and obtaining necessary referrals and authorizations, including, but not limited to, inpatient, outpatient, post transplant care, pharmacy, organ acquisition, travel and lodging
  • Keeps supervisor and/or Administrator apprised of any issues related to payer authorization and reimbursement.
  • Documents updates in TeleResults regarding insurance changes and prior authorizations. Ensures that all payer prior authorizations are current.
  • Maintains Excel spreadsheet of listed patient to ensure all patients are reviewed and prior authorization is obtained if required. If prior approval can not be obtained for transplant; the reason must be placed on Excel spreadsheet.
  • Maintains current knowledge of federal regulations and commercial insurance guidelines for transplant reimbursement.

What You Need to Be Successful:

High school diploma or state High School Equivalency Certificate (GED). Six months of general office experience. Experience in a patient care or service setting is preferred.
