THIS IS A PART TIME POSITIONFLSA Status: Non-Exempt Safety Sensitive: YES Level II Screening: YES Under the general direction of the designated supervisor, instructs children on an approved learning curriculum to improve their reading, math, science, technology and art skills. This position has no supervisory responsibilities.

Responsibilities and Reporting During an Emergency Situation:
Essential Employees may be required to work during a declared emergency. Depending on the nature of the emergency, this may require working around the clock for several days on short notice.
Non Essential Employees will not be required to work during a declared emergency. The employee's Department Head will determine when the employee will be required to work.

Duties/Responsibilities

  • Provides instruction to children on how to improve their reading, math, science, technology and art skills.
  • Plans and implements lesson plans.
  • Monitors and interacts with children.
  • Prepares and maintains records and reports.
  • Communicates with parents and teachers.
  • This position requires regular and reliable attendance and the employee's physical presence at the workplace
  • Perform related duties as assigned.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
  • Has the ability to speak clearly and persuasively in positive or negative situations.
  • Skilled in both oral and written communications.
  • Has the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships.
  • Able to operate necessary equipment, including computer, calculator, copier, etc

Minimum Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in teaching or related field.
  • One year experience in teaching children and/or adults; or an equivalent combination of education, experience, and training that provides the required knowledge and abilities.
  • Mandatory Drug/Alcohol Testing required.
  • When assigned to working with Youth, must meet the Department of Children and Families (DCF) requirements and inspections.
    • Successful completion of Department of Children and Families (DCF) child care competency training Part I required within ninety (90) days of hire or promotion; remaining Parts within one (1) year of hire or promotion; and annual in-service.
PREFERED REQUIREMENTS:
  • Teaching certification preferred

  • Balancing – maintain equilibrium to prevent falling while walking, standing, or crouching.

  • Fingering – picking, pinching, typing, working with fingers rather than hand.
  • Grasping – applying pressure to object with fingers, palm.
  • Handling – picking, holding, or working with whole hand.
  • Hearing 1 – perceiving sounds at normal speaking levels, receive information.
  • Hearing 2 – receive detailed information, make discrimination in sound.
  • Kneeling – bending legs at knee to come to rest at knees.
  • Visual Acuity 2 - color, depth perception, field of vision.
  • Visual Acuity 3 - determine accuracy, neatness, observe facilities/structures.
  • Lifting – raising objects from lower to higher position, moving objects side to side, using upper extremities, back.
  • Mental Acuity – ability to make rational decisions through sound logic, deductive reasoning.
  • Walking - on foot to accomplish tasks, long distances, or site to site.
Work performed is primarily:
  • Sedentary work: Exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally and/or negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects, including the human body.
WORK ENVIRONMENT
Contact with internal and external customers, and outside agencies.
May be required to work hours other than the regular schedule including evening, weekend, holidays and during emergencies.
