Position Overview:
This temporary assignment works with the Transportation Operations Center (TOC) Supervisor and Operator Team and will collaborate with the Incident Management Team (IMT), other SDOT divisions and teams, and other city departments to help manage traffic incidents and congestion as a TOC Operator. To perform this assignment, the successful candidate will know how the TOC completes its work, perform functions as an Operator, and should know how to summarize incident information into a report useful for an IMT. The position will also work with the TOC team to expand the team’s capabilities for incident reporting by preparing after action reports, participating in developing dynamic message sign (DMS) messages that will get inserted into the TOC’s weekly DMS plans and maintaining a database of functionality of TOC devices used for monitoring transportation corridors in the city. Additionally, this position will assist the TOC Supervisor and fellow Operators in coordination efforts with SDOT’s Department Operations Center (DOC) and the City of Seattle Emergency Operations Center (EOC) when activated. Job Responsibilities:Individuals holding this position shall be capable of working independently and performing, including but not limited to:
Education: An Associate Degree in Civil Engineering Technology or two years college level coursework in engineering and construction technology;
Experience: Two years of civil engineering experience.
OR: An equivalent combination of education and experience that demonstrates the ability to perform the position duties.
Ability to work evenings, nights, weekends, and on-call shifts as required.

- Compiling and preparing reports summarizing observations of transportation operations and mitigating measures taken for incidents affecting transportation system operations
- Collaborating with TOC team members to provide observations needed for IMT reporting
- Operating tools available to the TOC to provide awareness of travel conditions and assist response efforts
- Common office software work (word processing, spreadsheet, records management, etc.)
- Maintain awareness and understanding of the effects of special events and traffic control plans
- Support department goals in promoting diversity and social justice.
- E-mail reports to the TOC Supervisor and IMT;
- Operate and monitor TOC tools for indications of incidents affecting travel;
- Assist the TOC in preparing incident and construction event information for dissemination;
- Perform record keeping tasks such as daily communication logs and incident reports; reporting incidents using a variety of media and communication techniques;

Successful candidates in this body of work will also have:
- At least 6 months working knowledge of Transportation Operations Center (or equivalent) operations;
- Flexibility and adaptability to changing work priorities and requests;
- Excellent oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills;
- Detail oriented, with strong organizational, and time-management skills;
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications including Word, Excel, and Outlook;
- Effectively work in a multi-cultural workplace with a diverse customer base
- Most work is performed in a normal City work/office environment.
- Field assignments entail exposure to all types of weather, traffic, hazardous/toxic substances and work in or near construction sites.
- May be required to lift over 50 pounds.
- May be required to stand, walk, or bend for extended periods of time.
- Overnight travel may be required.
- Current Washington State driver's license or evidence of equivalent mobility.
