About the Position: This is a TERM position Not to Exceed 13 months with U.S. Army Military Police School (USAMPS), Directorate of Training & Leader Development, Force Protection Training Division, Law Enforcement Operations Branch at Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri. Please see additional information area for more information pertaining to TERM positions.

Responsibilities
  • Produce and execute basic police training to DA/DOD law enforcement students in accordance with governing regulations, directives, and the approved USAMPS Program of Instruction
  • Utilize law enforcement weapons expertise and skill to conduct weapons training in rifle, pistol, shotgun, and non-lethal weapons/munitions employment.
  • Execute Oleoresin Capsicum (OC/pepper spray) direct contamination training; impact weapons, mechanics of arrest, weapon retention and other activities necessary to train police officers how to overcome combative criminal suspects.
  • Keep abreast of changes in police technology, training methodologies, civilian and military law enforcement industry standards, educational techniques, and training gaps/ issue associated with DA/DOD police operations.
  • Incumbent uses knowledge of lessons learned, personal training, formal education, actual military and civilian law enforcement experience, as well as current and future developmental training to assist in the creation of mission based lesson plans.
  • Work independently, or as a member of a team, to complete curriculum development and writing assignments on time and to standard.
  • Train in classrooms, outdoor training sites, vehicles, firearms and vehicle driving ranges and other training locations/environments to simulate realistic police operations.
  • Perform training tasks to standard, demonstrate doctrinal accurate tactics and techniques, and examines student performance to diagnose issues and applies corrective training.
  • Coordinate training requirements with all assigned units to ensure that requested police training needs are met in a timely manner with existing resources.
  • Perform maintenance and accountability of training aids, equipment, and facilities to include, but not limited to, training sites, ranges, communication systems, and weapons/ammunition necessary to successfully conduct training.

    • Be a successful graduate of the Analyze, Design, Develop, Implement and Evaluate (ADDIE) model. Successful completion of all assigned courses will be completed as scheduled and within six months of employment
    • Be a successful graduate of the Foundation Instructor Facilitator Course. Successful completion of all assigned courses will be completed as scheduled and within six months of employment
    • This position requires the employee to operate, maintain, and receipt for various weapons systems used within training.
    • This position is covered by the 1996 Lautenberg Amendment to the Gun Control Act of 1968. Persons convicted of a misdemeanor or felony crime of domestic violence are not eligible for this position.
    • This position is subject to a pre-employment drug screening, and random drug testing thereafter, to include testing based on reasonable suspicion and testing due to direct involvement with an on-duty accident.
    • The duties of this position require Temporary Duty Travel approximately 10% of the duty time.
    • Incumbent will have to pass a pre-employment physical to meet physical requirements. This position may require an annual physical or medical surveillance examination.
    • Must have the ability to climb onto and into commercial and combat vehicles, stand for several hours duration and lift, on occasion, up to 80 pounds.

    In order to qualify, you must meet the education/experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application.     Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience that demonstrates a practical knowledge of the subject area of the position and of the methods and techniques of instruction, which includes: (1) instruct basic law enforcement training curriculum in the field of tactics, practical application of use of force, and law enforcement officer operational and patrol techniques; (2) evaluate and/or develop state-of-the-art law enforcement curriculum, and apply risk analysis to ensure training safety; (3) apply law enforcement regulations, policies and procedures in order to perform enforcement officer operational and patrol techniques (ex. issue citations, arrest/detain suspects, patrol areas to deter against threats). This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the second lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-09).

    Education: Ph.D or equivalent doctoral degree or 3 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree or LL.M. in a field which demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work of the position, such as: Criminal Justice, Law Enforcement, Forensics Science. (NOTE: You must attach a copy of your transcripts.)

    OR

    Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide the total number of completed graduate semester hours (or equivalent) beyond the second year (total graduate semester hours minus 36) by 18. Add the two percentages. (NOTE: You must attach a copy of your transcripts.)
