Job Description

The Executive Director (ED) of The Learning Centers (TLC) is the strategic leader of TLC and the Child Development Center (CDC) at Fairplex, and works with the TLC Board of Directors, the CDC Board of Directors, related committees, advisory groups, and the staff of the TLC and CDC. Responsible for the strategic planning and overall operations of community benefit programs that align with the TLC mission, to transform lives through life-long learning experiences in partnership with Fairplex and the community. The ED will further develop TLC’s core programs, operations, business plans and potential.

PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Work with all involved to develop TLC’s education programs, examining the resources available and the demand for new programs. The ED will assure that new programs align with the mission, and address the educational, economic, and community needs within the region.
  • Responsible for program administration and program evaluation reporting.
  • Implement a comprehensive staffing plan to recruit, retain and develop program and administrative support and certified instructors for all of the programs as needed.
  • Collaborate with the TLC Board of Directors to implement the strategic plans to actualize organizational objectives
  • Act as lead fundraiser, in partnership with the Development Department to plan, initiate and execute a multi-year, comprehensive major fundraising campaign to build capital, endowment and program funds to support a sustainable future for TLC; active participation in the cultivation and solicitation of donors.
  • Work as a peer member of the leadership team of Fairplex, as such; attend and actively participates in: visioning and business planning of Fairplex, the leadership meetings of Fairplex, the Association Annual Meeting.
  • Creates, cultivates and monitors a robust communications and marketing strategy, bringing awareness to TLC’s mission, engaging donors, and increasing overall reach in the community and serving as a spokesperson.
  • Initiates, develops and maintains cooperative relationships with key constituencies including local school districts, government officials, leaders of nonprofit organizations, corporations, foundations, and private philanthropists to promote educational programming of TLC.

Required Skills

Master’s degree from an accredited university

  • Background in Education programming or policy, or non-profit management expertise
  • Unwavering commitment to quality programs and data-driven program evaluation
  • Excellence in organizational management with the ability to coach staff, manage, and develop high-performance teams, set and achieve strategic objectives, and manage a budget
  • Past success working with a Board of Directors with the ability to cultivate existing board member relationships
  • Past success cultivating and soliciting donors, foundations and corporate partnerships
  • Strong marketing, public relations, and fundraising experience with the ability to engage a wide range of stakeholders and cultures
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills; a persuasive and passionate communicator with excellent interpersonal and multidisciplinary project skills

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS OF JOB

1. Must be able to type and use various computer software applications
2. Must be able to communicate over the telephone and electronic devices
3. Must be able to drive and have a valid California license
4. Must be able to move around the grounds
5. Available for weekend and evening work and engagements
6. Must be able to lift a minimum of 15 pounds
