Job Description
The Physical Science Laboratory Assistant will prepare for and supervise student activities in the chemistry and physics area of the Physical Science Center and in related group labs. An employee in this position is at risk for occupational exposure to human blood and other potentially infectious material as a result of the performance of the employee’s duties. Reports To Physical Science Lab Supervisor What position(s) reports to this position? none Minimum Education/Experience Associate degree, which includes the following coursework: Chemistry I and II, Organic Chemistry I with Algebra Base OR Chemistry I and II with Calculus based Physics I and II. Required Knowledge, Skills & Abilities The ability to orally communicate, using the English language, laboratory procedures and theoretical concepts to an individual student or group of students.

Visual ability, corrected, to observe and detect signs of hazards and obstacles that may cause injury to students and staff in the Science Lab.

Ability to lift and/or carry equipment weighing 50 pounds with or without the use of auxiliary aids.

The ability to use basic algebra, trigonometry, etc. to solve elementary chemistry and physics problems (i.e., molarity, normality, percentages by weight or volume, etc.).

Knowledge of an experience with laboratory equipment, materials and procedures.

Knowledge of safety procedures for storing, handling and disposing of hazardous chemicals.

Ability and willingness to work a flexible work schedule including daytime, evening and weekend hours including up to three nights per week as assigned.
