Job Description

Sibley Heart Center Cardiology is comprised of more than 50 pediatric cardiologists providing comprehensive services for patients from before birth to age 21 who have acquired or congenital heart disease. The Telehealth Medical Assistant provides routine administrative assistance and supportive patient care duties to the nursing department to ensure efficient operational management and effective patient care with telehealth services.

Minimum Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Medical Assistant training required, certification a plus.
  • Minimum 3 years of healthcare experience; pediatric or family practice, preferred.
  • Must have basic medical knowledge and understanding of medical terminology.
  • EMR/EPIC experience preferred.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office with emphasis on Word, Outlook, and Teams.
  • Ability to prioritize and handle multiple tasks, concurrently.
  • Demonstrated excellent customer service skills, good judgement, and problem-solving ability.
  • Certified interpreter, Spanish preferred.
  • Current CPR-BLS certification required.
  • Strong computer, typing and writing skills.
  • Strong attention to detail, organizational skills and follow-through discipline.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Facilitates the full-cycle of telehealth services by greeting patients on video platform when indicated, ensures accurate arrival of virtual appointment, transitions patient to the corresponding provider, completes patient check-out, post-visit provider notes and referral scheduling.
  • Assists the contact center with ensuring patient is scheduled appropriately for the visit.
  • Facilitates the registration of the patient information including verifying insurance eligibility.
  • Collects relevant patient information in preparation for telehealth visit including but not limited to, medical history, medication history, reason for visit and other patient information (i.e., vital signs).
  • Review information and report to physician or nurse, including any problematic or unusual findings.
  • Assists the medical and nursing staff during and after the visit in coordinating aspects of the patient’s follow-up care.
  • Identify technical issues that may require escalation.
  • Perform other clinical/virtual functions as delegated and supervised by provider/physician.
  • May be required to work as a clinical medical assistant in clinic and perform regular clinic duties as needed.
  • Perform other duties and projects as assigned.
