JOB DESCRIPTION: *

Position Objective: The Technology Systems Specialist supports the work of the Foreign Service Institute’s (FSI) School of Language Studies (SLS) Educational Technology Coordinator with a specific focus on SharePoint support for the school.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Site Collection Administrator (SCA) for all SharePoint tenants within the School.
    • Support Divisions with creating, maintaining and improving SharePoint sites in the OpenNet and external tenants.
    • Help sections clarify SharePoint needs and design decisions. Show sections how to administer, edit, and secure SharePoint sites.
    • Interact with IRM to provision external tenant SharePoint accounts and reset passwords.
    • Work with FSI/EX/Training Management Systems to resolve SharePoint issues requiring higher-level action.
    • Serve as the primary point of contact between the School and SharePoint coordinators in other schools and meets with them regularly to exchange ideas and technical assistance as part of a SharePoint community of practice.
  • Advise divisions on using Office 365 tools to automate business processes including collecting data and soliciting approvals.
  • Guide divisions in transitioning from a document management system based on personal and shared-drives to a document management system based on Office-365 (OneDrive, SharePoint, Groups, and Teams).
  • Track and understand Office 365 and IRM updates, announcements, and known-issues to inform stakeholders of effects on current systems and processes.
  • Advocate for the School’s continuing adoption of Office-365, SharePoint, and Teams as dictated by user needs and IRM best practices.
  • Provide School leadership and staff with information and end-user support on IRM-approved remote access solutions.
  • Maintain the main School and Division sections of the FSI Intranet website and assist with maintaining permissions/editing/Phone Books, etc.
  • Coordinate with the Bureau of Global Public Affairs to maintain the School’s section of the State.gov internet site.
  • Support the development and implementation of the new learning management system (FSiLearn) by advocating for School needs and informing stakeholders of the system’s features and processes.
  • Provide technical assistance for issues with the FSiLearn as needed.
  • Assist the Ed Tech Team in the design and implementation of new Tech Portals.
  • Conduct other duties as assigned, including one-off projects and general technical assistance in support of Department, FSI, and School technological initiatives.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Information Technology related field
  • 1 year working in Information Technology related field
  • Proven Proficiency: Knowledge Management Systems Administration (ex: SharePoint)

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s or Master's Degree in Information Technology or Education Technology / Instructional Technology Related Field preferred
  • Experience: 1 year working in Instructional Technology Role preferred
  • Knowledge management Systems Administration (ex: Microsoft SharePoint) and Educational Delivery Systems / Learning Management Systems
  • Knowledge of: Instructional Technology Hardware and Software
