TECHNICIAN – MAINTENANCE SERVICES


DUTIES


This position involves assisting the Coordinator – Maintenance Services in the day-to-day activities of maintaining and repairing IFDC buildings and equipment. Duties may include:


  • Assisting in the performance of preventive maintenance (e.g., checking equipment at regular intervals, repairing the building's roof, electrical wiring)

  • Repairing equipment (e.g., replacing broken pipes, performing carpentry repairs, repairing broken air conditioning units, performing electrical repairs)

  • Performing a variety of other related minor duties as required

JOB REQUIREMENTS & DIFFICULTY OF WORK


This position requires basic working knowledge in carpentry, plumbing, electricity and general maintenance skills. This job may involve the following:


  • Ability to use hand and power tools (e.g., wrenches, saws, drills, drivers) and test equipment (e.g., voltage meters, coolant gauges)

  • Ability to perform electrical work (e.g., reading electrical prints and repairing electrical problems within the buildings and equipment)

  • Ability to perform general carpentry, sheetrock, and painting work (e.g., repairing and remodeling of the building and equipment)

  • Ability to perform general air conditioning repairs and pipe fitting work on buildings and equipment

  • Ability to understand instruction manuals, which aid in maintaining and operating equipment

  • Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions

  • Ability to operate industrial equipment in accordance with safety procedures (e.g., forklift, front-end loader)

  • Valid drivers license

  • Minimum of a high school diploma and four years of relevant work experience

RESPONSIBILITY


The majority of repair work is assigned via general instructions by the supervisor on a daily basis. The supervisor may review the work as needed and upon completion. Undetected errors may result in additional damage to the equipment, delays in completing repairs, and additional costs.


PERSONAL WORK RELATIONSHIPS


Most contacts are made with the supervisor for the purpose of receiving work assignments. Contact is also made with various IFDC staff to answer technical questions on crafts as required.


PHYSICAL EFFORT AND WORK ENVIRONMENT


This position requires routine exposure to moving machinery, high voltage electrical wiring, dust, fumes and various other conditions (e.g., walking on the building's roof). This position is responsible for following proper safety procedures when performing work.
