Job Description
Overview:

Element has an opportunity for a Tax Manager to join our growing team. The manager will be a key member of the Americas Finance team with responsibility for ensuring local and Federal tax compliance, overseeing the regional tax operations, conduct regular reviews, working closely with external advisors in ensuring the accuracy of tax returns for all legal entities.


This position will require effective leadership traits and exceptional managerial skills, while embracing a hardworking culture of continuous improvement, ensuring progress toward the attainment of ambitious company goals. The Tax Manager will also ensure compliance with the company policies & procedures.


Responsibilities:

Tax Compliance, Controls & Processes

  • Lead tax planning, research, compliance, preparation and filing of tax returns for federal, state, and local jurisdictions in the Americas Region
  • Responsible for the preparation of the tax provision and FIN 48 documentation for year-end financial statement disclosure, feeding into group tax in the UK.
    • Responsible for all aspects of tax to include income tax, corporation tax, sales and use tax, real estate tax, property tax and any other taxes
  • Explore and implement opportunities for process improvement in company tax procedures
  • Review and approve various tax returns and any quarterly/annual tax projections or estimates
  • Responsible for tax payment calculations and extension requests
  • Ensure compliance of all tax filings and lead responses to all IRS, state, and local tax notices
  • Responsible for analysis for all tax general ledger accounts and related reconciliations

Tax Planning (In Consultation with Group Tax and External Advisers)

  • Monitor legislative and regulatory tax law developments, communicate the effects of these developments to management and the tax team and create strategies to capitalize on changes to taxation legislation
  • Develop and implement tax planning strategies for all necessary Federal and State taxes
  • Plan for and develop overall return calendar and coordinate timing and inputs with the Element tax team

Query Resolutions & Relationship Management

  • Responding to ad-hoc tax queries from the business including support around withholding, corporation, sales, real estate and property taxes
  • Resolving none corporate tax queries by researching and seeking assistance as necessary
  • Liaising with the Inland Revenue Services (IRS) and relevant State revenue authorities in resolving any tax queries and establishing working relationships
  • Manage income tax, sales and use tax audits. Provide solutions and resolve issues when dealing with federal, state and local tax entities in collaboration with outside experts as needed.
  • Provide support with various internal audits and special tax-related projects

Special Projects

  • Supporting the Global Tax Director on providing tax input on M&A transactions and subsequent tax integration projects in the Americas Region
  • Establish a robust transfer pricing mechanism for the Americas Region by working closely with Group Tax Director and external advisors
Skills / Qualifications:
  • Extensive individual and corporate tax knowledge in a corporate environment
  • Strong accounting, analytical, and research skills to resolve complex tax issues
  • Strong knowledge of tax code, compliance and procedures for corporations
  • Familiarity with the U.S. and Canada Federal, State and local reporting requirements
  • Strong experience with a variety of tax operations and the ability to drive process improvements
  • Strong ability to utilize project management and tax best practices to organize and prioritize tasks
  • Ability to work well independently as well as the ability to work well with stakeholders and communicate the benefits of tax initiatives
  • We are looking for a candidate with experience as a tax manager.
  • Preferred candidates must have a current CPA license, a master’s degree in an accounting discipline and any specialist tax qualifications
  • Advanced Microsoft Excel, Word and PowerPoint skills

  • Credible and have the necessary gravitas to advise the CFO, Americas on tax-related matters
Location & Travel
  • A full-time role based in our Glendale Heights laboratory in Illinois
  • Some travel will be required
