About the Opportunity

The Tax Accountant maintains and administers the transaction tax function to ensure timely compliance with multiple states and local transaction tax reporting requirements for several entities. Responsible for maintaining the General Ledger accounts and business transactions in a manner consistent with US GAAP and company policies. .


In this role, the successful candidate:

  • Prepares monthly, quarterly, and annual tax returns & business filings (sales/use tax, GST/HST returns, Property tax (571L)) in an accurate, timely and efficient manner.
  • Reconciles monthly transaction tax liabilities between the General Ledger, trial balance and tax data.
  • Analyzes monthly sales data to research, identify and resolve variances and tax-related issues.
  • Organizes and manages tax data in the accounting system.
  • Prepares sales tax journal entries and ensures accuracy of all of the information reported.
  • Responsible for the annual 1099 processing and reporting.
  • Prepares intercompany journal entries and performs monthly intercompany reconciliations.
  • Prepares Quarterly Loan Account Statements for the Shareholders, owners and other loan account holders.
  • Provides audit and tax support through the generation of accurate reports, schedules and documents.
  • Monitor industry trends and changes related to taxes.
  • Participates in the month-end close process, special projects and other accounting functions.
  • Other duties as assigned.


What does it take to be successful?

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting or equivalent combination of relevant education and direct experience required.
  • Minimum five years’ experience in accounting required.
  • Hands-on experience and understanding of US GAAP, Sales & Use Tax, SFAS Rules, Reporting and Analysis
  • Excellent mathematical, problem-solving, time and project management skills
  • Ability to complete tasks, meet deadlines and adapt quickly to changing priorities.
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills.
  • Expert with Excel, advanced experience using the Microsoft Office suite.
  • Accounting software knowledge required, QAD preferred.
  • Ability to work effectively with all levels of the organization with minimal supervision.
  • Ability to learn technical concepts by reading work instructions and standard operating procedures, and completing on-the-job training.
  • Knowledge of cGMP regulations ISO 13485, 21CFR Part 820, CMDR SOR/98-282, 93/42/EEC, RDC 16 2013, MHLW MO 169 and TG(MD)R Sch3 preferred.
