We need someone who can collaborate with BI development and existing IT teams to perform ongoing administration of application Servers for Tableau, Hyperion and Business Objects. You would also be involved in building automation scripts in python, Node JS and Angular JS which will help provide a consistent, scalable, easy-to-use interface that can be consumed by internal customers.

Success in the Role: What are the performance outcomes over the first 6-12 months you will work toward completing?

Within your first 6 months

• You will be expected to independently handle customer issues in tableau and resolve them within the service level agreements.
• You will deliver automated scripts and documentation to support the adoption of these automations in Tableau.

After 6 months+

• You will be responsible for interfacing with different teams and gathering their requirements for new projects on tableau as well as working on them.
• You will be regularly evaluated on the quality of the tickets you resolve, the timeliness of resolution and the scripts you write to ensure continued advancement of your technical skills in an environment that looks to expand them.
• As a member of the Application Operations group you will be expected to provide administration support to Hyperion and business objects as well, and all your deliverables must align with the group’s development and deployment standards.

What type of work will you be doing? What assignments, requirements, or skills will you be performing on a regular basis?

You would be working as part of VMWare’s global Application operations team, in making sure that all relevant systems are functioning properly. This includes Application servers support, user support, capturing performance metrics, service levels, server status and both planned and unplanned system outages.

As a member of VMWare’s global Application operations team, you will: -

• Assist Tableau users with site creation, Project creation and User Access setup.

• Perform User issues troubleshooting, monitor scheduled jobs and refresh failures.

• Perform various application-level patches and upgrades as needed.

• Configure and maintain the Tableau Server Software Layer with optimal balance.

• Monitor server activity to identify possible performance issues/needed enhancements at OS level.

• Perform tuning and management of tableau environment (clustering, load balancing).

• Work with IT Security, Network, and other IT Teams for environment support.

• Investigate New Product Features and validate\test the releases.

• Troubleshoot Software Defects and Request Vendor Resolution

• Work on system Auditing (Report Creation and Maintenance, License Usage)

• Create and manage groups, workbooks, projects, database views, data sources, and datasets in Tableau

• Integrate Tableau with other applications/services such as TabPy and embed using the Tableau API.

• Troubleshoot, maintain, and configure backups for internal and customer facing applications.

• Define and document best practices and support procedures.

• Provide after-hours support for emergencies as well as occasional weekend maintenance.

• Maintain inventory and asset configuration documentation.

• Interface with other teams to gather information/feedback and troubleshoot issues.

• Script tableau automation scripts using Python, shell, Node JS, Angular JS or any other scripting tool.

The hiring Manager for this role is Sarita Kar, Senior Manager IT Application Operations. Sarita’s management philosophy is about encouraging everyone on the team to be independent thinkers and not feel like she is looking over their shoulder. Sarita looks for people who can think out-of-the-box and then execute on a good idea.

The core team is made up of four administrators who work in close partnership with development, network and other IT teams. The team works flexible hours, arranging schedules to fit their needs and taking consideration for weekly phone calls with global colleagues, primarily in India and Austin, Texas.
