Interns spend approximately 10 weeks remotely working alongside leading experts in government, international economics, development and academia from all over the world. Brookings also offers students the opportunity to intern in departments such as communications, human resources and central operations management. The mission of the Internship Program is to provide students with a pre-professional learning experience that offers meaningful, practical work experience related to their field of study or career interest. Students engage in career exploration and development as well as learn new skills.

Interns will have the opportunity to attend virtual meetings, local think tank events, professional development workshops, and public Brookings events. In addition, interns will have the opportunity to network with other interns throughout the Institution.

This internship beginning in June 2021, is an opportunity for undergraduate students in their sophomore, junior or senior year, and for graduate students with an interest in economic development and education to apply principles and theory learned in the classroom to work in a professional environment. This internship is offered on the basis of academic credit and/or external financial support.

Applicants must be willing to commit to a minimum number of hours per week (no less than 15-20 hours per week, during regular business hours), with some flexibility around an academic course schedule.

The intern will have the opportunity to assist in providing program coordination and research assistance in the Center for Universal Education in the area of Impact Finance. The focus of the internship work will be on results and outcomes-based financing, in particular development and social impact bonds, as one part of the larger picture of financing for development challenges.

The Global Economy and Development (“Global”) program at Brookings aims to shape the policy debate to improve global economic cooperation and fight global poverty and sources of social stress. The Center for Universal Education (CUE), founded in 2002 as part of the Global Economy and Development program, is one of the leading policy centers focused on universal quality education particularly in the developing world. We develop and disseminate effective solutions for quality education and skills development. We envision a world where all children and youth have the skills they need to succeed in the 21st century. CUE plays a critical role in influencing the development of policy related to global education and promotes actionable strategies for governments, civil society and private enterprise.

Qualifications:Education/Knowledge/Skills:
Students should be undergraduates in their sophomore, junior or senior year, or graduate students completing a degree in a relevant field such as international affairs, education, international/comparative education, or international development, or related fields.

Applicants should possess excellent organization and communication skills, both written and oral, and the ability to accomplish tasks efficiently with minimal supervision. Demonstrated ability to conduct qualitative research. Experience in planning and facilitating meetings. Ability to work independently in a fast-paced work environment and pay close attention to detail when performing administrative and logistical, coordination, research-related tasks. Successful applicants will have a working knowledge of the Microsoft office suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, Access), with proficiency in Excel.
Additional Information:
This is a remote only opportunity. This internship requires you to be located in the U.S. for the duration of the internship.
Successful completion of a background investigation is required for interning at Brookings.
