Job Description
Description:

Stargate School is seeking an individual who is passionate about supporting students with identified disabilities across all settings in the school environment. A successful candidate will have a growth mindset, eagerness to collaborate with their team while holding a high level of communication in order for the students to have equitable access to learning opportunities. This individual assists students with special educational needs by delivering academic instruction, assisting the teacher with preparation of classroom materials, and adapting curriculum to individual student learning level. Monitors behavior of students and assists in the implementation of BIP.

A paraprofessional works under the supervision of Stargate’s K-12 Director of Special Populations and general direction of the Learning Specialists (special education case manager) and classroom teachers.

This is a temporary hourly position to work through the remaining 2020-2021 school year; the hourly rate is $14.00.

. Requirements:

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Assist special education students by supporting and/or providing assistance to access academic instruction within special education and general education settings.
  • Assist teachers in providing differentiated learning opportunities for students, following agreed upon service delivery and accommodations.
  • Provide modifications while monitoring and modeling socially acceptable behavior.
  • Assists instructors with related paperwork, including the provision of requested documentation (i.e. accommodations, behavior notes) on a daily basis.
  • Assist instructors with preparation of classroom materials.
  • Supervise students during transitions, lunch, recess, and/or on field trips as scheduled by a school administrator.
  • Sanitize, disinfect, and clean the learning environment and general work area on a regular basis.
  • May assist with administering assessments or testing.
  • Perform other job-related duties as assigned.

Education and Work Experience:

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Willingness to work with students in person and/or remotely receiving special education services; training opportunities provided.

Licenses, Registrations, or Certifications:

  • Criminal background check required for hire.
  • CPR, first aid, and medication administration certifications as recommended/scheduled by a school administrator.
  • Universal Precautions training preferred.
  • Crisis Prevention Intervention Training attendance as scheduled by supervisor.

Technical Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities:

  • Ability to diffuse and manage volatile and stressful situations with students.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality in all aspects of the job.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks with frequent interruptions.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities.
  • Ability to keep up-to-date technically and apply new knowledge to your job. Includes adapting to and mastering new system applications and processes as implemented by the school or department.
  • Ability to promote and follow Board of Education policies, Stargate Policies and building and department procedures.
  • Ability to communicate, interact and work effectively and cooperatively with all people including those from diverse ethnic and educational backgrounds.
  • Ability to recognize the importance of safety in the workplace, follow safety rules, practice safe work habits, utilize appropriate safety equipment and report unsafe conditions to the appropriate administrator.

Materials and Equipment Operating Knowledge:

  • Operating knowledge of and experience with personal computers and peripherals.
  • Operating knowledge of and experience with typical office equipment, such as telephones, copiers, audio/visual equipment, etc.
  • Operating knowledge of school information technology systems and any other department specific software and equipment required within 2 months after entering position.
