Job Description

Operates and maintains stationary engines and mechanical equipment such as steam engines, boilers, air compressors, generators, motors, and other auxiliary equipment to provide utility services.


Operates, monitors, and performs preventive maintenance on high-pressure boilers, boiler auxiliaries, and other related mechanical/ life safety equipment.

Inspects equipment for malfunctions and makes adjustments or repairs to restore the equipment to operating condition.

Maintains the boiler and auxiliaries' specified pressures and temperatures. Maintains prescribed chemical concentrations in boilers and auxiliary equipment.

Observes meters and gauges to determine operating conditions of equipment and to regulate flow of water, fuel, steam pressure, and oxygen in accordance with needs and safety standards.

Performs installation and repair of minor piping, structural and electrical systems.

Operates, monitors, and maintains automated building and equipment control systems.

Computes job costs and order parts, equipment, supplies, and materials.

Maintains current daily logs, preventive maintenance records and equipment repair files in order to comply with local, state and federal regulatory requirements.

May assist in construction, remodeling and maintenance projects.

Scheduled Hours

It’s a 2 week rotation, Week 1 – 3rd shift Sun Mon, off Tues, 2nd shift Wed, Thur and Fri off Sat. Week 2 – off Sun, mon, 2nd Tues, Wed, Thur, 3rd Fri Sat.


Licenses & Certifications

Forth Class Power Engineer certification issued by the National Institute for the Uniform Licensing of Power Engineers, Inc. (NIULPE), or

Facility Operating Engineer - First Class certification issued by the American Society of Power Engineers (ASOPE), or

Facility Operating Engineer - Second Class certification issued by the American Society of Power Engineers (ASOPE), or

Power Plant Operating Engineer Third Class issued By The American Society of Power Engineers, Inc (ASOPE)., or

Mechanic Education and Certification for Healthcare (MECH) issued by the Wisconsin Healthcare Engineering Association (WHEA), or

Universal Chlorofluorocarbon (CFC) certification issued by the United States Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), and

A valid drivers license issued by the Division of Motor Vehicles.

Degrees

Associate's Degree (or equivalent knowledge) in Power Engineering & Boiler Op.

Required Functional Experience

Typically requires 2 years of experience in power plant operations.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

Employees working in the City of Milwaukee must obtain a Stationary Engineer's permit to operate within one year of hire.Current driving record that meets Aurora fleet safety standards.Knowledge of applicable codes/regulations pertaining to assigned equipment and operationsBasic computer skills.Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.Demonstrated ability to work independently and to problem solve.
