Staff Software Engineer Data Infrastructure (Osiris)

Your Job Data Infrastructure is at the core of Indeed’s data driven culture. The Data Infrastructure team at Indeed is responsible for building and maintaining the pipelines and systems for ingesting data from all of Indeed’s applications and for processing it to gain insights into our employers and jobseekers.
As a Staff Software Engineer at Indeed, you will be one of the team members responsible for Osiris, Indeed’s proprietary petabyte-scale distributed key-value store. Osiris lives at the core of Data Infrastructure’s platform, as the primary database for most of Indeed’s data pipelines, as well as powering data behind every job search on Indeed.com. Building and running a database that runs both on-premise and in cloud, handling both OLAP and OLTP workloads comes with a unique set of opportunities and challenges. You’ll have an enormous amount of impact, working on interesting challenges at scale that improve the data ecosystem for the whole company. Responsibilities:

• Identify and implement novel improvements to Osiris’ distributed coordination, storage engine, cloud integration, testing, security, performance, and reliability
• Leverage your deep understanding of Osiris and Indeed’s Data Infrastructure to ensure the continued success of Osiris’ customers and Indeed’s Data Platform
• Collaborate with SRE and Operations teams to implement monitoring, procedures, and a culture that ensures a high level of service
• Mentor new engineers on the team and advocate for a strong software engineering culture

Who You AreMinimum Requirements:

• BS in Computer Science or related area, or relevant work experience
• Significant experience with large scale, high-performance systems
• Strong fundamentals in distributed systems, parallel programming, and data structures and algorithms
• Excellent collaboration and interpersonal skills
• 5+ years of hands-on software engineering experience

We get excited about candidates who have:

• Experience directly contributing to database development (storage engines, transaction processing, query optimization, distributed coordination)
• Significant experience with large scale data pipelines and data lakes (Hadoop, Spark, Kafka, presto, and similar)
• Significant experience with architecting cloud applications (particularly with cloud storage systems such as S3 or DynamoDB)
• Experience contributing to open source projects
