Staff Development Specialist (Clinical Nurse Educator), Outpatient Pavilion


The Staff Development Specialist is involved in the training and professional development of staff at all levels of the organization. Unit based Staff Development Specialist I may oversee direct and indirect care of patients. Interpretive skills, frequent interactive and consultative collaborations, along with demonstrated leadership ability are inherent in the position. The position requires knowledge of both department and hospital policies and procedures as well as standard practice guidelines and regulatory requirements. The ability to retrieve, communicate or otherwise present information in a written, auditory or visual fashion is essential. Written, telephone, and manual dexterity skills are required for this position.

  • Certification in specialty preferred
  • Current Virginia license to practice professional nursing
  • Bachelor's degree in Nursing required, MSN preferred
  • At least five years of recent clinical practice in relevant discipline preferred
  • Active membership in at least one professional organization related to specialty
  • Current BLS certification; BLS instructor preferred
Responsibilities:
  • Collaborates with appropriate personnel to define department based competencies and orientation.
  • Plans and facilitates trainings or programs to meet the educational needs of staff, including orientation, in-services, or education requirements.
  • Leads, coaches, and councils staff with a goal of promoting best practices outcomes.
  • Support all elements in the nurse professional development practice model to include: In-service, Continuing Education, utilize research and EBP, academic partnerships, orientation and competency programs.
  • The nursing professional development specialist is responsible for maintaining role competence as well as ensuring educational opportunities for staff.
