Job Description

Employees will be provided the same concern, respect, and caring attitude within the organization that they are expected to share externally with every Southwest Customer.Responsibilities: Provides advanced aircraft and Powerplant Engineering support and specialized aircraft and Powerplant systems expertise to the Southwest Airlines Technical Operations organization. This responsibility includes management of component repairs, aircraft and engine repairs and modifications, asset management, workscopes and on-aircraft troubleshooting being accomplished on all Southwest fleets for assigned components and systems.
WORK ACTIVITIES/CONTEXT:

  • May perform other job duties as directed by Employee's Leaders.

  • Reviews and can approve engineering documents created by other engineers for related Service Bulletins and Regulatory documents and initiates the required action by generating appropriate Engineering documents.

  • Coordinates Major/Minor Repairs/Alterations with the appropriate regulatory and technical authorities.

  • Identifies cost saving modifications to be performed on Southwest aircraft/components and accomplishes cost benefit analysis to justify or negate such proposals for the team.

  • Coordinates periodic technical reports as called for on all assigned systems for self and others.

  • Coordinates technical requirements with manufacturers and repair agencies for all assigned systems.

  • Provides internal Customer training as required for all assigned systems.

  • Provides technical and troubleshooting assistance within the Maintenance and Engineering department and other departments as required or requested.

  • Remains technically current on all assigned systems and components.

  • Maintains a constant vigilance on all related CFR's and regulatory changes affecting Southwest Airlines Maintenance.

  • Provides technical assistance to support SWA field services at third party maintenance facilities.

  • Reviews SWA documents and facilitates aircraft manual changes, task cards and other maintenance documents as required.

  • Designs special repairs for discrepancies not covered by the manufacturers technical manuals

  • Develops and processes in-house repairs/modifications.

  • Provides technical support and provides Liaison support to SWA Regulatory personnel and the FAA on technical matters as required/requested.

  • Remains current on industry growth measures and state of the art systems/components.

  • Can assume the duties of the Engineering Manager in the absence of the Manager.

  • Complies with any directives as set forth from time to time by the Engineering Manager.

  • May perform other job duties as directed by Employee’s Leaders.

  • Assist Manager in developing engine maintenance contracts and work specifications.

  • Monitor trend analysis and reliability tracking and direct personnel in corrective actions.

  • Prepare engine work scopes and be able to review and approve for others.

  • Review and approve engine repair invoices.

  • Monitor engine spare levels and create action plans to ensure engine assets are properly maintained and located.

  • Assist Manager in maintaining engine maintenance budget.

Qualifications:

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:

High School Diploma, GED or equivalent education required. Must be at least 18 years of age. Must have authorization to work in the United States as defined by the Immigration Reform Act of 1986.
