Job Description

SUMMARY OF ROLE:
The Sr. Manager of Electrical Engineering is a hands-on role and is responsible for building and managing an Electrical Engineering organization that will meet Element Science's needs across all stages of engineering development including system architecting, requirements definition, concept, prototyping, design, verification and validation, production, and sustaining engineering.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Own the architecture, design, development, and characterization testing of all electrical aspects of Element Science’s products.
  • Lead a team of electrical design engineers, test engineers, and technicians in all phases of product development from research through commercialization across multiple projects.
  • Participate in the development and/or refinement of user needs, product requirements, and hardware requirements for new products.
  • Develop and track to electrical engineering or related project schedules, ensuring cross-functional alignment on project milestones and timelines.
  • Provide technical direction and support within R&D and cross-functional teams including ongoing manufacturing, supply chain, quality, and clinical efforts.
  • Manage electrical engineering team resourcing, adjusting priorities as needed to meet company needs for development projects as well as support of products through clinical trials and/or commercialization.
  • Be the electrical engineering representative in risk management, change control board, and material review board meetings as needed.
  • Provide technical mentorship and coaching to foster professional growth within the electrical engineering team.
  • Continuously improve engineering best practices and advise team on appropriate Design Control and QMS documentation practices and use of tools.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering or equivalent, advanced degree preferred.
  • A minimum of 10 years relevant engineering experience, with a minimum of 5 years management experience of direct reports.
  • Experience in leading Class III medical device product development which include sensors, sensitive analog circuits, and ideally also high voltage electronics
  • Analog electrical design and test experience, with an in-depth understanding of IEC60601-1 and IEC60601-1-2.
  • Works collaboratively within a cross-functional team environment and effectively influences project direction.
  • Ability to plan and organize time efficiently.
  • Outstanding communication skills, with the ability to explain complex technical concepts to a non-technical audience.
  • Well-versed in product development processes and quality systems for medical devices, particularly 21CFR 820.30 Design Controls, ISO13485 QMS for Medical Devices, and ISO14971 Risk Management for Medical Devices.
