THE IMPACT YOU CAN HAVE:
The Senior Manager of Copy will define the evolution of the Ulta Beauty brand voice, serving as a creative thought leader to define, direct and execute the copy strategy that brings our brand to life across all messaging touchpoints: store signage, mags, digital (site and display), email, mobile, organic and paid social, video, and more.
In addition to best-in-class copy for national campaigns and evergreen content, you have deep experience creating style guides, collaborative standards, and toolkits that equip teams to express a consistent brand identity. You are a blend of storyteller and strategist, reporter and researcher, player and coach: All in all, a forward-thinking, clear communicator who can easily switch from high-level concepting to micro copy. This leadership role reports to the Editorial Director and works closely with Design, Marketing, Merchandising, and all channel strategy leads.
CORE JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Lead a unified copy POV across all channels based on product and brand strategies, inclusive of 360 campaigns and channel-specific always-on
  • Collaborate with Editorial, Content and Integrated Marketing to create key messaging architectures
  • Collaborate with Creative leadership to ensure consistency of voice and tone, advising on typography, hierarchy, and general creative development
  • Collaborate with Merchandising, Site, SEO, Email, and Digital Marketing teams to ensure compelling, consistent execution and test and learn opportunities
  • Manage and coach a team of 2-3 full-time writers and multiple (3-5) freelancers, top editing for clarity, voice, and consistency
  • Act as copy point of contact for 4-6 external agency partners, both in onboarding and training, and approving deliverables
  • Act as copy lead for guest-facing corporate responses including but not limited to crisis management, partnering with PR, Guest Services, Social, Corporate Communications, DEI, and executive leadership
  • Develop a roadmap to embed copy expertise in key growth areas such as DMPP, UX and digital innovation, UB Media and others
  • Plan and build for the next phase of growth, roadmapping necessary copy functions in service of 2023 content publishing goals
  • Recommend a pipeline for strategic contract support, managing and tracking budgets in partnership with Creative leadership
  • Partner with Operations to audit and streamline work across multiple tools and platforms
  • Demonstrate success through measurable KPIs across all channels
  • Evolve and scale style guides and rubrics for copy across all channels
  • Stay on the cutting edge of culture, current events and beauty, as well as trends in marketing, content, digital, and advertising

ESSENTIALS FOR SUCCESS:

  • BA in Journalism, English, or Creative Writing
  • Minimum 8-10 years of copywriting experience with a background in digital, social media, and/or shopper marketing
  • 5+ years of strong management experience managing up, down and across highly matrixed organizations with executive presence
  • A copy multi-hyphenate with experience in longform, short-form, editorial, advertising, even whitepapers and reports
  • A champion for diversity, equity and inclusion, known for fostering inclusive thinking and representation in your team and in your work
  • A proven leader with strong decision-making, organizational, and delegating skills, turning gray areas into clarity for teams
  • Competence in creative & analytics platforms (Google Analytics, Google Docs, Adobe Creative Suite, Microsoft Suite, Invision, Miro, Amplience)
  • Proficiency in complex project management and production tools (Monday.com, Workfront, Jira, Sketch, etc.)
  • A left-of-center thinker, bringing fresh approaches to differentiate Ulta Beauty
  • Exceptional proofreading and editing skills, versed in AP & Chicago Styles
  • A lover of beauty and its lifestyle adjacencies

The pay range for this position is USD $98,000.00/Yr. - USD $166,300.00/Yr. with the opportunity to earn additional compensation pursuant with the Company’s bonus plan. Exact pay will be based on factors including, but not limited to relevant education, qualifications, certifications, experience, level, shift, geographic location, and business and organizational needs.
