The Opportunity

QVC is looking for a demonstrated leader of people to lead and develop our expert Broadcast IT Engineering team at our headquarters in West Chester, PA.

The Sr. Manager Broadcast IT Engineering reporting to the Director, Broadcast Engineering-US (QVC), will manage a cross-functional (on-site and remote) team of highly experienced technologists through an open and agile atmosphere. Supporting all Broadcast IT Engineering operations and systems pertaining to the broadcast of all QVC networks.

Travel and on-call support will be necessary to properly support both the team and technical services.

  • Responsible for overall planning, organizing, and implementation of all Broadcast IT Engineering related functions.
  • Oversee & Maintain Broadcast Engineering cyber security standards and policies; Responsible for cyber security, core infrastructure, platform management, near-term /long-term technology strategy, streaming services, day-to-day and business continuity operations.
  • Leads development, strategy, evaluation, and implementation of standards and governance by researching and benchmarking industry standards; determining hardware, software and Broadcasting interface standards for core infrastructure and platform management; ensuring the implementation of standards; providing guidance on standards; reviewing and approving team members' Engineering work and developing and implementing an internal control assessment and remediation approach.
  • Develops Broadcast IT portfolio roadmaps to convey the current and future state.
  • Drives the execution of multiple projects by identifying internal customer and operational needs.
  • Manage the resolution of Broadcast IT issues across the Broadcast Engineering organization, partnering with Global Broadcast Engineering, QVC & HSN peers. Appropriately escalates issues of significant risk, sensitivity, and impact on the business. Ensures root cause analysis is completed and learnings are integrated into new or revised SOPs.
  • Develops financial project and people resource plans for the area. Ensures resources are in place and operating effectively within the technical discipline.
  • Conduct annual performance reviews, assist in compensation decisions, and make personnel recommendations to leadership. Oversee the recruitment and qualification of applicants for Broadcast IT positions.

What You Bring

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent professional experience; Advanced degree highly desirable in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or a related field of study.
  • 8+ minimum years of recent and relevant experience in Broadcast IT, Corporate IT Infrastructure/Platform, Architect role.
  • 6+ years demonstrated success leading and developing a technical team of experts and corporate projects ideally in Broadcast IT, or Television Production/Streaming Video environment required.
  • Knowledge of Broadcast IT industry manufacturers/services, Cisco, Arista, Palo Alto, HPE, Dell, Nevion, Microsoft System Center, Symantec, Skyline (Dataminer), Dalet, VMware, Teradici, Citrix, Vantage, Huber-Suhner, Vizrt, Nener.no, Harmonic and Zixi.
  • Knowledge of IT systems; servers, switches, routers, NAS/SAN storage, virtual desktop infrastructure, render farms, monitoring, web encoders and cloud services.
  • Knowledge of broadcasting standards and systems, SMPTE 2110 standards, cameras, switchers, audio consoles, intercom, IFB, playout, graphic, and multiviewer system.
  • Knowledge of video streaming protocols, codecs, container formats and IP Protocols.
  • IT certification highly preferred (CCNA/CCNP, Microsoft, VMWare, etc.)
  • Computer programming experience desired; but not required (Visual Basic, Python, C++, Java, etc.).
  • CAD and Visio design experience is a plus.
  • Agile and ITIL concepts and methodologies.
