Position Overview:

Rosetta Stone is looking for an experienced Senior Director of Engineering who is passionate about building cutting edge applications, as well as making products that make a social difference. In this role you will be joining a team of experienced leaders and engineers. The team is happy to roll up their sleeves and get the job done; we are looking for a leader that can harness that enthusiasm. We are seeking an engineering leader who has built out, mentored, and led technical teams, and who knows how to develop a culture that encourages both collaboration and innovation. Our leaders are hands-on, and must have strong technical expertise, willing to help design, architect, and review solutions.

Location:

We are open to this position being remote, however an ideal candidate would reside in either Harrisonburg, VA, Boulder, CO, or Seattle, WA.

Core Responsibilities:

  • Build and lead an agile, high performance, and innovative team responsible for the build and delivery of our learning and commerce software solutions.

  • Modernize development standards and architecture while maintaining quality of delivery.

  • Foster an environment of experimentation and continual improvement through regular Innovation Sprints, technical debt reduction and an architectural vision.

  • Be hands on with delivery teams and help guide development practices, architecture decisions, and review solutions for quality and completeness.

  • Develop Engineering Directors and Managers for continuous growth in business acumen and delivery excellence.

  • Stay in sync with multiple development and product teams routinely reviewing specs and roadmaps to ensure development cycles stay on time and are of the highest quality.

  • Work closely with our UI/UX, Product Management, and Curriculum teams to deliver high quality user experiences.

  • Convert vision to strategy, and strategy to action. Create an architecture roadmap that achieves our organizational goals now and into the future.

Qualifications:

  • Demonstrated leadership building out complex service-based Web and mobile applications.

  • Experience delivering high-quality, cross-platform applications using technologies such as Java, Javascript, modern JavaScript frameworks (React, AngularJS), Ruby, HTML 5, CSS 3, iOS/Swift, Android

  • 10 + years of engineering experience, preferably with 5+ years of increasing leadership responsibilities with experience managing managers.

  • Strong background in driving large technical projects from conception to rollout/production.

  • Experience managing production incidents with a repeatable process.

  • Experience working in multi-team Agile/SCRUM development programs.

  • Prior experience working in one or more of consumer, education, enterprise product market segments.

  • Excellent communication skills: proven experience in developing relationships, building presence, and commanding respect with C-level

  • Track record of introducing and applying best practices for software and tools

  • Minimum of BS in Computer Science or related field.

  • Ability to travel from time to time.
