Summary

The Spiritual Care Director plays an integral role in the success of our team, our community and creating a place our residents are proud to call home. You will be responsible for providing unparalleled service to our residents.

The Spiritual Care Director provides compassionate and holistic spiritual care for our residents. The Spiritual Care Director creates and hosts programs of a spiritual and religious nature to support the individual needs of each resident of faith or otherwise. The Spiritual Care Directors' goal is to help each resident have the best day they can possibly have, every day.

Essential Job Functions, Duties, and Responsibilities

  • Encourage resident participation with spiritual care programs and services.
  • Conduct and document timely spiritual assessments on residents as appropriate. Initiate spiritual care plan as needed. Document progress in the electronic health record.
  • Organize workshop services, life celebrations and religious holiday programs in creative and ecumenical ways.
  • Participate in Care Conferences to enhance continuity of spiritual care as needed.
  • Establish positive working relationships with members of the healthcare team and volunteers.
  • Support volunteers who host spiritual care programs with recommended content, and needed materials.
  • Create, and set up spiritual care programs, and communicate scheduled times with Life Enrichment for inclusion in monthly calendar and to residents via flyers face to face.
  • Escort residents to and from spiritual care programs as needed.
  • Meet and greet clergy and spiritual leaders who enter community. Ensure that they know where to go and help answer questions they may have.
  • Connect, establish, and maintain relationships with local spiritual organizations, and their corresponding leaders.
  • Assist with increasing the amount of volunteers that come to your community related to spiritual care.
  • Report any observed or reported spiritual changes in a resident's condition and/or needs to a Nurse or during IDT meetings.
  • Assist with the implementation, facilitation and evaluation of the spiritual care programs.
  • Attend community special events and staff meetings as necessary.
  • Understand Life Enrichment department policies and procedures. Be able to communicate best practices to staff, residents and families.
  • Secure community roster daily or weekly which tracks deaths, hospitalizations, referrals, new admissions hospitalizations, and those near end of life.
  • Order and maintain all necessary spiritual care supplies with the approval of the Life Enrichment Director.
  • All other duties as assigned by Executive Director.
Required Skills and Qualifications
  • Capable of performing the essential functions of the job, with or without reasonable accommodations
  • Ability to understand and communicate written and verbal directions
  • Regular attendance, reliability and punctuality is necessary
    • Ability to work nights and weekends, upon request
    • Ability to work overtime as needed
  • Outstanding customer services skills
  • Well organized with excellent attention to detail
  • Aptitude to work independently with excellent time management skills
  • High aptitude of interpersonal skills needed to work with distressed and anxious residents, family members and employees.
  • Ability to assess residents' spiritual needs and sense of well-being and find appropriate solutions for the individuals' needs.
Education and Experience
  • Bachelor's Degree and Graduate Level Theological Degree (or equivalent) preferred
  • Minimum of five or more years of experience in pastoral care in a church setting or in a counseling setting. Previous work experience with the aging population preferred
  • Fluent in English, verbal and written
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite
