Position Description:

Finlandia University is seeking a talented marketing professional who is looking for a great opportunity to grow professionally while making a difference at a vital time for Finlandia in the position of Social Media Specialist. The successful candidate’s primary duties will be to manage FinnU’s growing social media presence. The Social Media Specialist will be responsible for meeting department goals by overseeing outward-facing owned communication outlets, collaborating with university departments, marketing and capturing events through photo and video efforts and creating original copy, graphics and video content representing our 125-year-old institution.

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in communications, public relations, marketing, or relevant field, or equivalent education and professional work experience
  • Two-years experience in communications, marketing or related field. Experience in educational field desired
  • Experience developing and creating social media strategies, content, and utilizing content management systems such as Hootsuite
  • Ability to create engaging, well-constructed content (text, images/graphics and videos) that builds meaningful connections and encourages our audiences to take action
  • Ability to analyze/track social media data and analytics to produce reports and determine areas of opportunity and growth
  • Experienced photography and videography skills
  • Experience with Adobe Photoshop, Premiere Pro or other media editing software
  • Excellent copywriting skills and attention to detail
  • Ability to create digital graphics with services like Canva, Adobe Creative Cloud
  • Comfortable working as part of a team, with a strong work ethic, individual initiative, integrity, and a positive, energetic attitude
  • Ability to balance projects while meeting deadlines in a fast-paced environment
  • Understanding of SEO, keyword research and Google Analytics

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Manage FinnU’s growing social media presence by creating, editing, publishing and sharing engaging content while ensuring Finlandia’s brand standards are met (e.g. original text, photos, graphics, videos and news)
  • Communicate with followers, respond to queries/messages, monitor reviews and conduct social listening
  • Build and execute a digital media strategy to achieve marketing goals through analysis of internal statistics, competitive research, platform determination, benchmarking, messaging and audience identification
  • Develop and maintain digital media calendar
  • Adding events to website event calendar
  • Identify, photograph and film on-campus and community events to ensure necessary images are captured, meet university brand standards, and are properly edited and filed
  • Work with key stakeholders (I.E. Director of Student Engagement) to promote on-campus events, initiatives and campaigns through social media
  • Communicate with departments on a regular basis as to make sure the department is up-to-date with the rest of campus, and the campus is up-to-date with the department,
  • Stay up-to-date with technologies and trends in social media and relevant applications
  • Connect, schedule and interview students and alumni to create written features and video spotlights for website, newsletters and digital media channels
  • Ability to manage and coordinate projects for social media and photography/videography student work-studies
  • Evaluate individual website pages for meaningful content that strengthen their connection to the university and encourages our audience to take action
  • Take headshots of new employees; work with various university departments to schedule photography sessions as needed
  • Perform other duties as required
