Job Description

Wing Inflatables is interviewing NOW for a Shipping Manager position in our Arcata plant. We enjoy a fast-paced work environment, with tons of just-in-time manufacturing projects that are built here and shipped around the world. We manufacture custom-built marine inflatables for the most demanding domestic and international customers.

We are looking for a positive, dependable, and flexible leader who is very comfortable with scheduling, preparing and tracking detailed domestic and international shipments and getting them to our customers on-time and on-budget. Since this role will involve handling multiple government contracts, coordinating information from our sales and manufacturing teams, and maintaining all deliveries and logistics software, we expect the applicant to be immediately comfortable within a shipping warehouse and committed to quickly learning our current shipping processes, government specifications, and MRP system. Although this is a hands-on position, we want someone who loves managing people and will guide them to greater performance success and continuously improve processes. Someone who is excited to quickly understand the current raw materials used to build our product, our finished goods, and our quality standards is ideal. Of course, strong communication and customer service skills will be required on day one as you interact with internal and external stakeholders and solve shipping challenges. 3+ years in shipping, receiving or logistics strongly preferred; manufacturing plant experience is a big plus! ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

SHIPPING

· Oversee the daily functional shipping process, ensuring that final products are shipped accurately and on time

  • FedEx, UPS, XPO, AVA, Vantage Point
  • Create BOL’s/labels
  • FTL vs. LTL
  • Work with logistic partners if issues arise

· Manages contracts and government shipping modules

  • Odyssey/VSM/ATAC/EWAM
  • Labeling requirements
  • Packaging requirements
  • Crating requirements

· Liaison for shipments with sales/customer service and procurement and other divisions in our group of companies, as necessary

  • Quoting
  • Creatively solves shipping issues to customer satisfaction
  • Arrange shipments back to Wing (SC’s, vendor shipments, etc)

· Ensures all HAZMAT required documents are completed and that staff is trained to handle

  • Coordinate with sales/customer/broker if shipping dangerous goods to countries that do not accept UPS/FedEx DG Shipments
  • Manage and handle creating, processing and auditing documentation for shipping to include hazardous shipments and international customs clearance.

· Manages and communicates scheduling needs

  • Attend shipping meetings to track any changes/issues in production schedules
  • Communicates and manages changes to schedule with shipping team and outside trucking partners
  • Daily updates from production to track project completion and communicate to XPO/FedEx daily pickups

· Reviews and updates all process controls and Standard Operating Procedures

· Coordinates and collaborates with other departments internally and at our domestic and global affiliates to implement cost savings, create best practices locally, and improve delivery performance.

· Maintains working knowledge of international import export regulations as well as trains staff on package labeling and marking in accordance with government contract regulations

EMPLOYEE MANAGEMENT

· Responsible for accurate staffing of the shipping area and directs/coaches the staff in the completion of accurately shipping and receiving transactions

· Plans work and daily schedules and makes necessary adjustments based on capacity, priorities, anticipated delays, while controlling overtime.

· Focus on teamwork, morale, and continuous improvement

· Train, develop and support the shipping team

· Conducts annual evaluations, hiring, and disciplinary actions as needed

SAFETY

· Maintains a clean, safe and secure shipping bay/warehouse; addresses deficiencies swiftly

· Ensure efficient and safe space utilization

· Maintenance schedules will be followed, and proper PPE and hazardous materials training will be monitored

· Will become forklift certified and maintain all forklift certifications for team.

OTHER FUNCTIONS

· With the proper inventory background, may oversee inventory cycle counts, identifying damage, loss or surplus of materials, and review reports from our MRP systems. May also help to oversee the pulling/staging of materials and MRP/ERP transactions for manufacturing work orders.

· Receive feedback and monitor the quality of services provided

· Will act as back-up for the shipping or materials technicians as needed

· Other duties as assigned

SPECIAL ASSIGNMENTS OR WORKING CONDITIONS (Additional physical requirements are on Physical Requirements Form)

· The position works in an office environment as well as a safety-conscious production environment

  • Must be able to use hands and fingers to process paperwork on a daily basis
  • May require frequent reaching, stooping, crouching, and lifting/moving up to 50 lbs
  • Will move, lift, load, unload, supplies with use of forklift or pallet jack.
  • Ability to read and interpret documents, safety rules, maintenance instructions, SDS sheets.
  • Occasionally exposed to fumes and airborne particles. Noise level is moderate. Temperature can fluctuate based on outdoor temperatures.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • High school graduate or equivalent; Bachelor's Degree is strongly preferred; will consider a combination of education/experience
  • Prior experience working in shipping, logistics, inventory/materials or related area, Min 3 years and hazardous materials handling preferred
  • 2-3 years of leadership/management experience
  • Inventory experience is a plus; there may be a possibility to grow into or include the inventory/receiving functions depending on background
  • Functional knowledge of Fed-Ex, UPS, LTL, and other logistics partners
  • International shipping experience and Hazmat preferred.
  • Proficient with computers with the ability to learn new systems quickly.
  • Possess strong work ethic; reliable and dependable; ability to work tight, often changing deadlines
  • Takes initiative, upbeat, energetic and takes pride in work
  • Excellent observation skills with superior attention to detail and a demand for accuracy in a deadline driven environment
  • Strong interpersonal and team skills; proven ability to interact with all levels of the organization.
  • Knowledge of ERP/MRP systems is a plus
  • Ability to carry out detailed instructions, apply common sense, and deal with issues timely

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $58,000.00 - $65,000.00 per year
