Work you'll do:

The primary objective of the position is to provide operational and project support within the GTI group ensuring that the GTI hosted and managed services/applications and the virtualization and compute layer are highly available.

The GTI Senior Virtualization Infrastructure Operations Engineer role requires advanced skills that enable the individual to deliver a high level of service and to meet the expectation from the business of a highly available agile infrastructure. Advanced knowledge of core, specialized and technical competencies is required, along with a very solid understanding of an enterprise IT infrastructure operational environment, adhering to industry best practice.

Primary responsibilities include: Virtualization Operations

  • 24x365 virtualization operation and management
  • Responsible for ensuring all virtualization hosts within the data center(s) conform to the same standard configurations and driver / firmware levels that are in line with best practices.
  • Identify repeatable operational tasks and issues; create automated resolutions to these situations to reduce operational overhead within the virtualization function as well as other enabling areas as required.
  • Support infrastructure applications from a Virtualization function as required, including VMWare Cloud Foundation (ESX, VSAN, vRealize), SQL Server, SharePoint, SAP and Microsoft Clustering.
  • Optimization and performance of hardware infrastructure.

Additional responsibilities include:

  • Accountable for execution according to established standards, procedures, and processes
  • Cross-Functional support for development and implementation of systems
  • Ensure data center systems are always available and reliable
  • Ensure optimization and performance of the hardware and virtual infrastructure
  • Monitor the Service Desk system
  • Participate in planned maintenance activities
  • Participate in a 24x7x365 on-call rotation
  • Respond to and manage service issues and problems
  • Responsible for awareness and compliance to policy and guidelines of the ISMS
  • Report any breaches in information security or policies Collaboration
  • Participation in global working groups responsible for the deployment and development of global technology systems and infrastructure
  • Ability to participate in the business impact assessment and risk assessment processes and help identify appropriate controls to mitigate identified risks.
  • Understands and can communicate requirements of member firms and external regulatory bodies for data privacy.
  • Has a basic knowledge and background of Solutions Architecture technologies, processes and issues, sufficiently enough to be able to understand how to proceed further and advise stakeholders with peer guidance.
  • Demonstrates expertise of IT governance concepts. Understands and able to manage the relationships of all GTI relevant stakeholders.
  • Understand the portfolio and the business drivers of the various components.
  • Supports the execution of the primary goals of IT Governance. Knowledge Sharing / Documentation
  • Contribute to, produce and maintain processes, procedures, operational and architectural documentation, that meet GTI Standards.
  • Change Control - Ensure compliance with processes and adherence to standards and documentation.
  • Assist in training new staff in technical processes and procedures.
  • Work with GTI leadership and application teams in reviewing new documentation.

  • Bachelor's Degree/College Diploma in Computer Science or equivalent industry experience
  • Years of Experience: 7 to 10 years Number of years of experience is provided as a guideline for hiring managers and represents the amount of experience typically needed to be successful in this role.

Candidates with more or less years of experience may be considered based upon education, unique skills or other factors to be determined at time of hire.

Technical Skills

  • Must have experience with large scale data center architecture (1000+ virtual machines, multi-forest/multi-domain across geographic regions), implementation and operations; appreciate the important aspects of running a 24/7/365 enterprise environment.
  • In-depth knowledge of VMware
  • In-depth knowledge of automating and orchestrating tasks using PowerShell & API's.
  • In-depth knowledge of Windows Server operating systems
  • In-depth knowledge of Microsoft SQL Server as it pertains to virtualization and storage best practices.
  • In-depth knowledge of Windows Clustering.
* Knowledge and experience of Linux Server operating systems a plus * Knowledge and experience with VMware vRealize Application Suite a plus
  • Experience in managing and organizing documentation within operational environments with focus upon indexing and content labeling.
  • Detailed understanding and ability to operate within a process-driven organization, but not be limited or constrained by it.
  • Ability to communicate effectively to peers all the way up to C-Level members of the organization.
  • Excellent verbal and written communications skills.
  • Sensitivity and cultural awareness is essential as the role will involve contact with a variety of people around the globe.
  • Discipline and experience in recognizing and handling confidential and sensitive information.
  • Excellent time management and attention to detail is essential.
