Under the direction of a Utilities Engineering Manager, provide utility maintenance support to all Utilities and Facilities equipment, processes and sub-systems. Takes appropriate action to correct operational maintenance problems. Accountable for carrying out the manufacturing division and site mission by assuring the quality of products and services are of the highest quality, optimal cost, and delivered on schedule. Accountable for continuous improvement in all aspects of the operation. Must be able to function in a team-based culture and operate in an empowered environment. Identifies and demonstrates a working knowledge of customers, suppliers and their requirements. Seeks ideas and information on how to improve customer service involving internal and external customers. Applies knowledge of the overall supply chain to efficiently complete work tasks. Applies knowledge of key business processes in their functional areas to perform daily work tasks. Adheres to the highest level of data integrity in all activities.

Primary Responsibilities

HVAC

  • Installing, maintaining and repairing Heating, Ventilation and Air Conditioning (HVAC) systems and equipment

  • Identifying maintenance risks on equipment

  • Diagnosing electrical and mechanical faults for HVAC systems

  • Providing technician direction and on-the-job training

  • Keep applicable refrigeration logs and maintain records per guidelines (RCM)

  • Ensure maintenance records (i.e., Work Orders, PMs, and Calibrations) are maintained and completed on-time

  • Ensure compliance with applicable site’s standards, EHS programs, site procedures, and all OSHA standards

  • Perform other duties as requested by the Utilities Engineering Manager

Purified Water Systems

  • Operate and maintain applicable purified water systems (i.e., Pre-treatment, Reverse Osmosis, WFI, PW systems)

  • Maintain and operate the filtering and chemical treatment processes

  • Inspect, service and repair components of the water treatment system including water intakes, pipes, water storage vessels, chemical treatment equipment controls, circulation pumps, boilers, heat exchangers and valves

  • Ensure maintenance records (i.e., Work Orders, PMs, and Calibrations) are maintained and completed on-time

  • Ensure compliance with applicable site’s standards, EHS programs, site procedures, and all OSHA standards

  • Perform calibrations and maintain industrial instrumentation standards

  • Perform other duties as requested by the Utilities Engineering Manager

Electrical Systems

  • Install, maintain and repair electrical control(s), wiring and lighting systems

  • Knowledge of technical diagrams and blueprints

  • Perform general electrical maintenance

  • Perform periodic inspections of transformers, circuit breakers, and other electrical components

  • Troubleshoot electrical issues using appropriate testing equipment safely and correct Personal Protective Equipment (PPE)

  • Repair and/or replace equipment, electrical wiring, and fixtures

  • Follow the National Electrical Code, state and local building regulations

  • Knowledge of National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) 70e electrical requirements and Arc Flash labeling

  • Perform calibrations and maintain industrial instrumentation standards

  • Carries out industrial maintenance functions in accordance with current Good Manufacturing Practices (cGMP)

  • Participates in the establishment and improvement of new and existing utility equipment

  • Provides technical specifications and information to PE&S, Utilities Project Engineers, and other manufacturing division requestors

  • Maintain process equipment by developing/performing PM's, developing/performing instrument calibrations, installing new equipment, completing validation protocols, documenting work using a computerized maintenance management system (CMMS | SAP)

  • Perform other duties as requested by the Utilities Engineering Manager

Additional Duties

  • Basic duties of the position are listed below; however, employees are expected to perform other duties or to accept other assignments to compensate for workload shifts as the need arises

  • Set-up changes over and adjusts all Utilities and Facilities equipment according to current SOPs and Competency-Based Training Modules | Performs frequent inspection checks and regular maintenance on utility systems (i.e., boilers, chillers, air compressors, etc.) and related valves, gauges, piping, and other equipment

  • Maintain proper functioning of steam generation, compressed air, hot water, potable water, treated water, and other systems

  • Working in conjunction with all appropriate personnel, performs manual and automated operations, general maintenance and support functions necessary to support the Utilities and Facilities equipment and systems

  • Performs general maintenance and assists or ability in troubleshooting of equipment independently

  • Cleans and lubricates machines periodically and performs other maintenance work required to assure the efficient operation of all equipment

  • Identifies the root cause of equipment malfunctions occurring while equipment is in operation and whenever possible repairs and adjusts the equipment in a manner that will result in the minimum production delay

  • Identifies and addresses compliance, environmental, safety and process deviations as appropriate while notifying appropriate personnel

  • Self-motivated to maintain own training status and ability to train others

  • Calibrates industrial control, measurement, and recording equipment | Prepares accurate GMP acceptable documentation recording measured information for file retention

  • Performs preventative maintenance inspections and prepares inspection reports concerning the operation of equipment and mechanical condition of the equipment

  • Maintains positive interaction and teamwork with other maintenance mechanics as well as Operators, Engineers, and other local and remote manufacturing division plant site personnel

  • Adheres to all Current Good Manufacturing Practices (CGMP) and quality procedures

  • Maintains good housekeeping in the work area

  • Consistently demonstrates the ability to troubleshoot equipment, this includes patient analysis of equipment problems and perseverance in applying a solution

  • Participate in and/or provide direct specialized training to any manufacturing division employee requiring it

  • Uses technical information, reads and interprets drawings, diagrams, and schematics, and carries out maintenance troubleshooting and repairs

  • Accountable for performing assignments in conformance with appropriate Regulatory (GMP's) and department standard operating procedures which assure the quality of our products and processes

  • Accountable for performing work in a safe manner following identified safety procedures and using applicable safety equipment

Education Minimum Requirements

  • High School diploma or equivalent and eight (8) years of industrial maintenance experience or two (2) year technical degree with four (4) years of maintenance experience or equivalent

Required Experience and Skills

  • Primary knowledge in the industrial maintenance environment

  • Mechanical and electrical troubleshooting skills are essential and must possess these skills to be effective in this area without further skills training

  • Must be able to read electrical prints and P&ID control loops
