Job Purpose

The Senior Systems Requirements Engineer supports the enabling of new technology through commercialization of advanced energy storage systems. This position will report to the Systems Engineering Manager and will be responsible for developing, deriving, allocating, and managing technical and functional requirements for batteries and battery system products (industrial chargers, inverters, and monitoring electronics). The engineer fulfilling this role will effectively participate in concurrent complex projects with a focus on achieving technical and financial objectives by working closely with multi-disciplined engineering teams. The ideal candidate should have comprehensive and demonstrated knowledge of systems engineering requirements management principles and processes.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Lead requirements development of new battery systems.
  • Decompose user requirements into functional requirements at both the system and subsystem levels.
  • Collaborate with Compliance Engineers to incorporate all applicable industry standard and regulatory requirements supporting 3rd party safety audits (UL)
  • Participate in safety analysis such as FTA, FMEA, and HAZOP to extract additional safety and reliability requirements
  • Assist with the identification of verification methods and development of verification plans.
  • Manage requirements traceability from source requirements throughout the product development life cycle.
  • Assist with creation of associated work product documentation from requirements management tools in support of design reviews, technical meetings, and technical documentation
  • Assist with the impact assessment of potential requirement and/or design changes
  • Ensure management is informed of all issues, risks and opportunities in a timely manner
Qualifications

Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or related discipline with 2+ years of design and or engineering experience

Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or related discipline with 8+ years of design and or engineering experience

Experience with requirements development, requirements verification, and project planning

Experience leading and presenting to small group technical meetings

Demonstrated technical proficiency with requirements management tools (e.g., Medini, DOORs, Polarian)

Understanding of both hardware and software development processes and requirements

Experience developing scripts for report generation and traceability using VBA, JavaScript, or similar to expand and improve the requirement collection and management process

Familiarity with the Eclipse IDE environment

Experience with industrial power systems and products including 480V 3 phase distribution and/or 1000Vdc solar systems.

Shows enthusiasm, motivation, and ability to work with technical engineers and scientists.

Provides high integrity and oversight of processes protecting intellectual property
