Your Specific Responsibilities:

The Senior Public Health Nutritionist Supervisor position is a highly responsible professional position for the Special Supplemental Nutrition Program for Women, Infants, and Children (WIC). This position is under the direct supervision of the Operations and Management Consultant Manager and requires independent judgment and decision making, as well as following specific federally regulated procedures in a fast-paced, high-volume setting. Work is primarily performed at Florida Department of Health-Gadsden in Quincy, Florida.


This position is responsible for the planning, implementation, monitoring, and evaluation of the WIC Program in Gadsden County according to the guidelines of DHM 150-24. Monitors clinic operations on a consistent basis to ensure compliance with all regulatory requirements. Responsible for all supervisory duties within the WIC Department including, but not limited to: hiring and selection, job specific orientation and competency, developing and facilitating in-service training, developing performance plans, conducting regular communication of job performance with staff, conducting performance appraisals, planning and directing staff work, approving leave, approving & verifying timesheets and EARs, and taking disciplinary action as appropriate.

In addition to managing personnel, this position collaborates with community agencies, health care providers, WIC vendors, and Health Department staff to conduct WIC program operations in Gadsden County. This includes, but is not limited to, consistently managing program budgets to ensure funding is adequately utilized at 100% spending within each fiscal year; establishing relevant policy and procedures; developing nutrition education curricula; interviewing WIC clients to perform nutritional assessment screenings for medical high risk, high risk, and low risk clients; analyzing medical and anthropometric data to determine nutritional risk eligibility; developing client nutritional care plans and prescribing food packages; documenting client medical record; monitoring accuracy of growth grids by clinic staff; providing individual nutritional counseling and education; coordinating and integrating the WIC program services with other health services (i.e. immunization, Head Start, local hospitals, Healthy Start, private physicians, etc.) to ensure maximum participation from eligible residents; referring clients and families, as needed, to health and social service agencies; as well as conducting community outreach which may include working nights and weekends.


This position is responsible for reviewing and working FL-Wise Reports which may include but not limited to Dual Enrollment Report, Benefit Over Issuance, Access Monitoring, Single User Certification, etc. Manages nutritional aspects of special formula issuances and inventories with assistance from WIC administrative staff. Ensures high risk clients are given appropriate care plans and proper follow up visits. Works cooperatively with Breastfeeding Coordinator to promote positive breastfeeding practices to WIC participants according to State WIC standards.


This position works to ensure clinic organization and workflow are maintained to ensure optimum customer satisfaction, as well as minimum client wait times. Identifies potential administrative or clinic problems and develops practical solutions. Assists staff during peak operating hours or during staffing shortages. Responsible for timely submission of timesheets, EAR's and other required reports / documents.

This position performs other related duties as required by supervisor.

  • Knowledge of nutritional and dietary assessment techniques.
  • Knowledge of the methods of compiling, organizing and analyzing data.
  • Ability to develop educational/training plans and supporting materials.
  • Ability to use various communication channels to provide education/training.
  • Ability to analyze and interpret anthropometric, biochemical, clinical and dietary data.
  • Ability to interview and counsel patients.
  • Ability to plan, organize and evaluate a nutrition program or project.
  • Ability to supervise people.
  • Ability to determine work priorities, assign work, and ensure proper completion of work assignments.
  • Ability to communicate effectively.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others.
  • Ability to understand and apply applicable rules, regulations, policies and procedures.

Qualifications:

A bachelor's or master's degree from a U.S. accredited university or college in nutritional science, community nutrition, clinical nutrition, dietetics or public health nutrition is required. Licensure by DOH, Division of Medical Quality Assurance as a licensed Dietitian/Nutritionist is mandatory. A Registered Dietitian is desirable.
