Job Description
This is very responsible professional civil engineering work of a supervisory nature with responsibility for Water/Wasterwater and/or Stormwater capital improvement projects, including the planning, investigation, location, design and construction of major, complex municipal engineering and public works programs. Work involves applying professional and technical engineering skills and knowledge to perform difficult projects and to produce creative engineering solutions; developing and coordinating construction of projects, including the review of designs and drawings, making necessary adjustments to stay on schedule, supervision of staff to make preliminary layouts and surveys, and addressing any administrative or technical problems. Work requires lead supervisory responsibility over other technical and professional employees assigned to specific projects; the exercise of considerable judgment and initiative; the application of professional engineering knowledge in evaluating the cost effectiveness, safety and practicality of construction methods; and providing technical support for all activities, such as preparation of plans, specifications and technical reports.
Salary: $74,170 - $117,534
Close Date: Open Until FilledTo Qualify Minimum Qualifications. Applicants must:
  • Have a Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university with a degree in civil engineering or a related field.
  • Have a minimum of 10 years as a registered Professional Engineer (PE) and possess and maintain a State of Florida PE license.
  • Possess and maintain a valid Driver License.
  • Be able to communicate clearly and concisely, orally and in writing.
  • For Roadway & Structures - have extensive knowledge of AASHTO, FHWA, MUTCD, FDOT Design Standards.
  • For Stormwater & Environmental - have extensive knowledge of SWFWMD, DEP and coastal design and permitting requirements.
  • Have knowledge of modern engineering methods and techniques as applied to the design, construction and maintenance of utility, drainage and transportation infrastructure, and cost analysis.
  • Have knowledge of traffic signal timing and phasing.
  • Be able to manage technical staff and multiple engineering projects.
  • Be skilled in the use of a personal computer and computer software including: 1) Word and Excel to prepare reports, analyses and studies, and 2) the latest Civil 3D application.

Desirable Qualifications. Preferred applicants:
  • Have previous experience managing public utility capital improvement projects related to a government entity.
  • Are able to gather, organize, interpret and compile relevant engineering information and data to provide a basis for sound decision making.
  • Are skilled in technical writing, engineering cost analysis and project scheduling.
  • Have considerable knowledge of the principles, techniques and practices of civil engineering construction and design.
  • Are able to manage multiple utility infrastructure related projects.
  • Are able to plan, assign and supervise the work of any assigned professional and technical employees.
