Our Viasat Antenna Systems Technology (VAST) business segment designs and manufactures antenna systems that lead several satellite communication markets. With commercial and government solutions for air, land and sea on the most advanced satellite communications network in the world we are leading the way in antenna development. The Mechanical Engineer is a key part of the Viasat Integrated Product Team and will have a significant impact on the design, development, and innovation impacting both the products and services that are key to Viasat’s long term goals and strategies. In this role, the Mechanical Engineer will have the opportunity to work on satellite telecommunications systems in a variety of applications including mobile land vehicles, maritime, and aircraft as well as fixed terminals. You will be responsible for all aspects of the physical design, as well as design for manufacturability, assembly, requirements verification (analysis and testing), design reviews, and productization.

Requirements
  • Bachelor's Degree or Higher in Mechanical Engineering
  • 10+ years of demonstrated ability of the job responsibilities
  • Experience with SolidWorks or similar industry CAD package
  • Experience with motion systems and components such as motors, drivetrains, gearboxes, and control systems
  • Knowledge of lean manufacturing processes
  • Experience with variable volume manufacturing processes
  • Experience resolving problems from design engineering to production assembly
  • Experience with tooling design and inspection techniques
  • Experience with cross-functional, integrated teams including multiple engineering fields, software, operations, production testing, quality, and supply chain
  • Experience with resolving complex manufacturing challenges and working with suppliers to meet product specifications
  • Technical writing skills
  • US citizenship required
  • Ability to travel up to 25%
Preferences
  • Experience in complex system level architecture that may include aspects of mechanical, electrical, and software fields
  • Experience in precision mechanical design methods
  • Design experience and familiarity with meeting environmental test methods in RTCA DO-160 and MIL-STD-810
  • Experience with qualification testing preparation, witnessing, and solving problems
  • Understanding of Finite Element Analysis
