Job Description

Job Summary


The Global Business Travel Association (GBTA) has embarked on a new sustainability journey to lead positive change on climate action and corporate responsibility across the business travel industry. The mission of the sustainability program is to collaborate with buyers and suppliers of corporate travel as well as industry leaders, to establish sustainability as a key pillar, along with new impactful initiatives. Areas of focus will include education, research, resource-enablement, advocacy, C-level engagement, and coalition building.

The Senior Manager of the Sustainability Program to help us bring our sustainability journey to life. This role will provide support for the SVP, Sustainability as it relates to GBTA’s new umbrella of sustainability initiatives. The ideal candidate is motivated, analytical, takes initiative, and displays a strong background and commitment to sustainability. They should also demonstrate strong communications, project management, administrative, and meeting management skills.


Responsibilities


  • Support internal and external partner meetings on sustainability-related topics, assist in developing meeting materials, and participate in meetings to capture key discussion points and follow-on actions.
  • Assist with the collection, compiling, and analysis of complex data to evaluate and to track sustainability program progress and provide analytical insight to help support the strategic direction.
  • Assist with speaker engagement (including briefing notes), and on-site management of sustainability related events.
  • Prepare written materials, respond to information requests, build timelines and workplans, contribute to team brainstorms around strategy, and help coordinate and track activities of the community collaboration team.
  • Work with the GBTA Marketing team to help create and deliver strategic initiatives to our constituents and member base
  • Work with the GBTA Communications and Government Relations teams to monitor news and policies, and to help analyze key developments and industry trends related to sustainability, climate action and travel.
  • Help implement initiatives aimed at greening our own global GBTA events (data and emissions tracking, reporting and communication to attendees).
  • Apply excellent organizational, communication, and planning skills by responding to requests for information, helping to coordinate activities and projects for the team and preparing correspondence as needed.
  • Liaise with GBTA members, including members of the Sustainability Committee, and Sustainability Leadership Council, to develop and share surveys and manage meetings logistics.
  • Help identify and reach out to key sustainability stakeholders and potential partners for GBTA initiatives.
  • Help identify and pursue relevant grants to support GBTA’s sustainability goals
  • Other duties as assigned.

Requirements


  • Bachelor’s degree
  • 5+ years of experience in relevant issues and industries, including but not limited to: management consulting, communications, policy & advocacy, research, sustainability, social impact, NGO/nonprofits; corporate responsibility and/or philanthropy.
  • Detail oriented and meets tight deadlines.
  • Excellent interpersonal, time management, administrative, multitasking, and organizational skills.
  • Superior written and verbal communications including proven writing, editing, presentation-creation, and proofreading skills.
  • Service and solutions focused.
  • Ability to work in a dynamic, fast paced environment.
  • Demonstrate digitally savvy - including MS Office Suite, MS Teams, Zoom, cloud-based document management.

Preferred Experience and Skills


  • Master’s degree preferred in an area specific to sustainability or in related areas of public policy, political science, or social science
  • Non-profit or public sector experience, passionate about impact-driven work
  • Experience in and knowledge of travel industry
  • Grant/Proposal writing experience
  • Advocacy campaign or public affairs experience
  • Multi-lingual
  • East Coast US Time Zone-based preferred

Physical Requirements/Work Environment


  • Prolonged periods sitting/remaining stationary at a desk and working on a computer.
  • Must be able to remain stationary and move for long periods of time, during events.
  • Must be able to show proof of vaccination against COVID-19.
  • Must be able to work a variety of hours in order to accommodate events.

Travel Required


  • Up to 15%
  • Travel to the GBTA Annual Convention or other global GBTA events including but not limited to the annual Sustainability Summit in Europe.
  • For remotely located candidates, ability to travel to HQ in Alexandria, VA, office when requested.
