Job Description Summary The Leader of Continuous Improvement (CI) will have plant-wide leadership responsibility for planning, coordinating, and managing activities and initiatives that have broad organizational impact focusing on Continuous Improvement within BDB’s San Diego Plant. The position will be accountable for the effective management of BDB San Diego plant CI projects and achievements of results, including creating a culture of Continuous Improvement through training and coaching of Associates and improvement team members.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Manage, Mentor and Lead the successful execution of CI Plans.

  • Actively seek and qualify new opportunities for process improvement, reduce production cost and improve customer satisfaction

  • Monitor and ensure that Financial Scorecard and Monthly Plant Reports are maintained and updated.

  • Establish and maintain effective relationships with the Plant leadership team, working in close partnership to coach and mentor the organization on process improvement and business excellence efforts. Train and develop staff (from Management to shop floor operators) on Lean, TPS, TPM, Six Sigma principles, creating a cultural transformation and lean manufacturing mindset

  • Formulate key recommendations regarding improvements needed to achieve strategic business objectives, and proactively identify objectives in jeopardy of not being achieved without substantial improvement efforts.

  • Foster and encourage an organizational focus on process management, including related metrics, management-by-fact and best practice business discipline.

  • Infuse the “voice of the customer” into problem-solving efforts to ensure that solutions are meaningful to our participants and institutions.

  • Drive the prioritization of improvement activity within the site, including cost/benefit analysis and resource allocation.

  • Introduce efficiency measurement (productivity and OEE) and quality improvement tools and methods to monitor/optimize the efficiency of operating processes in the organization.

  • Coordinate the development of timelines and action step accountabilities to drive improved business performance.

  • Assist in the planning and execution of deployment activities for Process Excellence, Reengineering & Transformation across the entire organization.

  • Mentor and develop plant personnel on CI and Zero Loss Mindset, develop future CI Leaders.


EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION

  • Bachelor's degree (Engineering or related field) required (Master's degree preferred)

  • Minimum 5 years relevant experience

  • 4 years of project management experience, leading strategic projects for complex organizations

  • Demonstrated experience in knowledge and implementation of Toyota Production Systems (TPS)

  • Demonstrated experience in assembly line design, assembly line efficiency improvements (Past employment experience preferred)

  • Lean-Six Sigma or equivalent Process Improvement Certification Required

  • Ability to travel domestically and internationally, as required

  • Experience leading large scale projects and Change management initiatives. Ability to work with others from diverse backgrounds and different cultures.

  • Excellent written and oral skills, and strong facilitation and negotiation skills.

  • Demonstrated ability to effectively work with ambiguities and rapid changes.
