The Humane Society of the United States (HSUS), the nation’s most effective animal advocacy organization, is seeking a Senior Human Resources Business Partner for the Human Resources department. In this position you serve as a strategic partner, trusted adviser, and main HR point of contact for leaders and employees in supported groups, departments, or functions.
You will be responsible for:
  • Acting as liaison between the assigned business area and Human Resource specialty functions to deliver value-added service to management and employees in support of their business objectives;
  • Focusing on managerial effectiveness for business leaders through coaching, advisory support, and technical HR knowledge sharing. Developing leaders' capability to understand how they impact and shift the culture. Ensuring leaders are creating a diverse and inclusive environment;
  • Proactively providing advice on employee relations issues in the context of cultural and organizational change. Responding to issues as they arise and striking the right balance in terms of ensuring consistent policy interpretation and application, fostering constructive relationships, enabling change, and managing risk;
  • Tracking and analyzing metrics on employee engagement, discipline, terminations, and voluntary attrition to recommend program or process improvement as needed;
  • Providing advice and counsel to employees and managers with regards to development opportunities, career mobility and advancement, organizational development, training, compensation, and programs to support the organizations' priorities.
Qualifications and Requirements:
  • Bachelor’s degree in business, human resources, or other relevant field, or equivalent work experience required;
  • A minimum of seven (7) years of professional work experience in HR, in increasing levels of complexity and organizational maturity required;
  • A minimum of three (3) years of experience in an HR Business Partner role required;
  • PHR or SHRM-CP certification preferred;
  • The ability to analyze and manage problems, and effectively provide solutions, using data-driven decision-making skills;
  • Excellent organizational skills with the ability to successfully manage multiple projects simultaneously.;
  • A strong attention to detail and commitment to excellence, demonstrated by the delivery of quality and timely outcomes;
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills; able to breakdown complex issues into easy-to-understand messages;
  • The ability to adapt approaches to changing situations;
  • Excellent interpersonal skills for interacting in a courteous, timely and diplomatic manner with all levels of employees;
  • Organizational, project, and priority management skills for planning, executing, and following up on issues, projects, and daily responsibilities to meet established deadlines;
  • The ability to handle information of a confidential nature and ensure that such information is secured and maintained in an appropriate manner;
  • The ability to build/foster relationships by reinforcing trust and respect, and demonstrating high standards of tact, diplomacy, and discretion;
  • Proficiency with word processing and spreadsheet software (Word, Excel), presentation software (PowerPoint) and familiarity with HR software;
  • The ability to work both independently and as an effective team member;
  • Willing and able to travel, as necessary. Approximately four trips (10%) per year.
