Job Description

Centurion is seeking a senior level Electrical Engineer to join the Engineering Services team to provide electrical discipline project execution support for capital projects on the Centurion Pipeline and Southeast New Mexico systems. The Sr. Electrical Project Engineer will function as part of a multi-discipline engineering team reporting to the Sr. Manager of Engineering Services. The Sr. Electrical Project Engineer should have a thorough understanding of electrical and instrumentation design requirements and evaluation of pipeline facilities as well as familiarity with other disciplines (pipeline, mechanical, civil etc.) needed for those projects associated with liquids transmission and gathering. Strong technical competencies and excellent communications skills should work together to provide quality customer service, leadership within the Electrical Engineer area of expertise, and a positive and teamwork-oriented attitude that leads to the successful completion of CPL capital projects.

Description of Responsibilities

  • Serve as Project Engineer/Lead for midstream facility and electrical design
  • Provide technical ownership in the generation of specifications, standards, and procedures concerning all power system engineering, design, and construction
  • Maintain existing datasheets for instruments and control devices. Develop new datasheets as needed
  • Serve in a consulting role to Operations and Technical Services for day to day electrical, automation, instrumentation, and power technical issues
  • Maintain ongoing awareness of new developments in hardware and software technologies
  • Proactively develop strong working relationships with Operations’ leadership and discipline technicians and encourage ongoing dialogue to promote excellent working relationships between Engineering and Operations
  • Develop written job scopes, create one lines, approve vendor drawings
  • Perform field site visits to evaluate construction plans, existing electrical equipment and engineering designs for capital projects
  • Interface with power companies and take ownership of ensuring designed level of power is in place prior to project commissioning
  • Support estimates for potential capital projects developing internal man-hour projections and/or evaluating third-party engineering proposals
  • Ensure electrical installations comply with NEC, NFPA 70E, NESC, IEEE specifications, standards and recommended practices
  • Ability to execute projects internally; work directly with Project Managers, discipline Engineers, Designers, Operations and other internal staff to successfully execute projects on time, within budget and with high quality
  • Work closely with third party engineering firms to ensure they have appropriate and up to date standards and specifications and they execute engineering deliverables to the level of Centurion expectations
  • Take responsibility for Technical Bid Evaluation of all electrical equipment and electrical services.
  • Conduct control systems design reviews
  • Execute hardware and software FAT
  • Lead commissioning of power systems as well as panels, instrumentation and SCADA systems
  • Track time and productivity with respect to estimates and report to the Project Engineer or Project Manager on a regular basis
  • Work closely with Operations staff to understand operability issues and incorporate them into the execution plan
  • Ability to build, maintain, and apply SKM electrical system models. Review power studies, evaluate load flow values, short circuit levels, arc-flash levels, electrification impact studies, and protective device coordination
  • Select and provide settings for the coordination of electrical protective devices
  • Mentor and lead other Engineers and Designers
  • Proactively looks for improvements in the electrical engineering work and project processes
  • Review and approve electrical engineering construction packages
  • Serve as Subject Matter Expert for the Electrical Engineering, construction, and project execution
  • Serve as the Project Manager on electrical and automation intensive maintenance capital projects (ie power upgrades, PLC upgrades, equipment obsolescence, etc.)

Requirements

  • BS in Electrical Engineering is required, P.E. License a plus
  • 15+ years experience in electrical engineering supporting pipeline, plant, oilfield, or similar operations
  • Direct experience working win an Operations organization is preferred
  • Proficient in use of Microsoft Office software including Outlook, Word, Excel, Microsoft Project, PowerPoint, and SharePoint
  • Power distribution equipment application and knowledge of equipment components including 27KV switches, Reclosers, and pad-mount power transformers.
  • Extensive knowledge of SKM and GE Enervista software. Good familiarity with PLCs, Local Operator Interfaces, and Control Valves.
  • Extensive knowledge of 480V MCCs and 480V, 240V, 120V distribution.
  • Knowledge of current industry arc flash hazard requirements and standards
  • Extensive working knowledge and expertise in NEC code and its application
  • Expertise with power systems design and operations, 15KV/5KV power distribution, equipment and protective relaying
  • Familiarity with process controls, P&IDs, and HAZOP Analysis
  • Thorough understanding of the effects and mitigation of harmonics in power systems
  • Must possess strong team leadership, coaching, and mentoring skills
  • Strong oral and written communications skills and Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to work effectively in a fast paced environment and work on multiple projects simultaneously
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and to lead other team members
  • Experience with MV & LV motor starters, Solid-state Soft Starters, and VFDs, and a good understanding of how to apply each
  • Good familiarity and ability to program Multilin relays specifically the 350, 750, and 869
  • Self-starter; works independently
  • Good team player with strong collaboration skills
  • Must be able to work outdoors, wear personal protective equipment, and walk on uneven surfaces
  • Must be willing to travel (Domestic 15-25%)
