Job Description

Location: B-F Headquarters is in Louisville, KY however, we are considering candidates across the US for a remote work from home set-up.

The Senior Data Scientist will be expected to exhibit the following capabilities:

  • Developing strong analytics based on sound statistical modeling processes.

  • Providing strong stewardship around corporate resources .

  • Continuing to look for data driven gains in operational efficiencies.

  • Gaining a thorough understanding of the commercial and brand operations of the business.

  • Partnering across the organization to identify strategic insights within all operating functions and geographies.

  • Ability to leverage multiple sources of data and advanced tools to develop directive analytics which includes strong visualization of the data.

  • Outstanding oral and written communication skills with the ability to discuss financial/business strategies and translate into actionable plans.

What you can expect:

Data Visualization

  • Design, Implement, and Support Business Intelligence reporting using advanced data visualization and analytics tools, with a specific focus in Tableau.

  • Design and build publication-ready data visualizations using diverse sets of structured and unstructured data.

  • Monitor and resolve performance issues specific to dashboard development and delivery.

  • Lead the development of the organization’s visualization techniques.

Predictive Modeling & Machine Learning

  • Strategize in collaboration with functional teams to identify data-driven solutions to ongoing needs across the organization.

  • Collaborate with the various analytical teams within the organization to discover new and creative ways to solve leading-edge problems with predictive analytics.

  • Develop SQL code to build ETL jobs within Brown-Forman’s data lake environment.

  • Develop best-in-class statistical modeling techniques to collect, analyze and interpret data; utilizing both supervised learning through multivariate modeling as well as unsupervised learning techniques such as cluster analysis, decision tree and random forest modeling.

  • Build causal and predictive models utilizing statistical programming languages such as R based on integrated data of various structures from numerous sources stored in a SQL environment.

  • Design algorithms for building new data and features to expand modeling capabilities.

  • Assess models; provide proof and explanation for acceptance tests.

  • Create Deployment code for queries in R to run automatically on historic data and for systematic updates, and collaborate closely with the Business Intelligence team to deploy across the enterprise.

Cross-Functional Partnerships

  • Work in tandem with Business Intelligence to develop distributed computing capabilities to handle large-scale data storage and computation, and deployment of such a platform for analytical purposes.

  • Summarize insights from statistical models for use across the organization for strategic decision-making, allowing all areas of Brown-Forman to succeed within their respective functions.

  • Strategize in collaboration with functional teams to identify data-driven solutions to ongoing needs across the organization.

  • Move forward multiple projects by employing project management techniques.

We are looking for people who have:

Education & Professional Experience

  • MA/MS in Economics, Statistics, Mathematics, Computer Science or related fields and 3+ years work experience OR BA/BS in Economics, Statistics, Mathematics, Computer Science or related field and 5+ years of relevant work experience.

Technical Qualifications

  • Extensive expertise in analyzing large, complex, multi-dimensional datasets with a variety of tools, and accomplished in the use of statistical analysis environments, with a specific focus in R.

  • Extensive experience with Tidyverse programming in R.

  • Experience with RStudio Server Pro, RStudio Connect, and using RMarkdown for creation of deliverables.

  • Experience with relational databases such as SQL and NoSQL, as well as Hadoop-based data mining frameworks.

  • Demonstrated ability to independently prepare sophisticated statistical analysis with accuracy and calibration within an established time frame.

  • Ability to read and understand mathematical formulae with the capability of applying new concepts to existing problem sets.

  • Understanding of both structured and unstructured data, the benefits of both, and when / how to apply them.

  • Experience applying statistical concepts and knowledge to real-world applications.

  • Extensive experience with Tableau, including proven record of driving adoption.
