About the Position

Our successful Data Engineer candidate will work with the Slashdot Media team to continue to build and enhance processes to; intake, retrieve, consolidate, transform, clean, and prepare data for our Passport Data product. Passport is a data driven product with over 100 million B2B contacts including related data such as: buying intent, technographic, firmographic, and other information. We sell Passport data as well use it internally to generate demand generation and integrated marketing campaigns for out large list of technology focused customers.

You will work closely with stake holders, product managers and other engineers regarding the analysis of systems and processes that create data to recommend or perform changes to those systems for accurate and complete data availability. You will be self-driven and self-directed, but will collaborate and work closely with the engineering lead and chief solutions architect to accomplish these outcomes.

We seek candidates who identify themselves as polymaths, analytical, rational and logical for this position. The position is full time salaried and our preference is to have you work in our corporate offices in San Diego, but we will consider a remote arrangement with highly qualified candidates. The work day is flexible, but you should expect to spend 20-30 hours per week working Monday to Friday at various times from 9 am - 5 pm PST (Conference calls, meetings, virtual working sessions, etc). The remaining time would be devoted to technical development, analysis and implementation and can worked at the engineer's discretion.

Responsibilities

  • Design, test, implement and improve next generation data engine platforms
  • Collaborate with stakeholders to define and document data requirements for services
  • Continue to enhance data systems to efficiently intake, transform, and store massive data sets
  • Design data models that support product and business needs
  • Translate source system data into reporting structures based on business metrics definitions
  • Build datasets for use in internal and external APIs and data products
  • Implement best practices and testing to validate data quality, availability, and reliability

Requirements

  • 5+ years of experience in Data Engineering
  • Experience using and administering SQL and NoSQL databases
  • Excellent conceptual, analytical, and problem-solving skills
  • Extensive knowledge of data warehousing technologies and best practices
  • Experience building data pipelines using internal and external data sources
  • Experience using and authoring Web APIs and services
  • Experience working on an Agile team
  • 5+ years of SQL experience, mining data, creating database objects, data transformation scripts
  • 2+ years of scripting/programming experience, including the use of SOAP and REST services.

Bonus Skills or Experience

  • Experience with Elastic Search, MySQL, MongoDB, Solar
  • Statistical mathematics and linear mathematics
  • Using and configuring cloud services, such as AWS
  • Experience working with marketing technologies for lead generation
  • Experience working with PHP and or Python
  • Experience working with Salesforce or Mercato
