Job Description
About This Location : The Sr Accountant - AA is responsible for analyzing complex financial records and reports for the business segment. Responsibilities include authenticating financial transactions, reconciling sub-ledger & general ledger account balances, and preparing financial statements. Reporting directly to the Accounting Manager – AA, the Sr Accountant - AA will work closely with a team of AA Accounting staff, as well as the Corporate office team, and Finance, Data Analytics & Operational colleagues. There are no direct reports.Position Responsibilities:Duties & Responsibilities
  • Responsible for all general ledger activities, including preparation of journal entries and safekeeping of supporting documentation; maintains accurate account balances by verifying, allocating, posting & reconciling transactions and resolving discrepancies
  • An integral contributor to the timely and successful completion of the monthly financial closing process for the AA business segment
  • Assist with preparation of the monthly financial statements, including analytic review prior to submission to the Accounting Manager - AA and Corporate Controller
  • Understand systems & transactions that interface to the general ledger (e.g. Payroll, AP, contract management, cash receipts & disbursements, revenue & expense variances, Fixed Assets, Leases, Debt, etc.)
  • Assess the impact of operational decisions and their impact on the financial statements
  • Under the supervision of the Accounting Manager – AA, prepare & provide data requests to the public accounting firm for the year-end financial audit
  • Understand current accounting policies & procedures, help develop best practices
  • Serve as a member of the accounting team in the development & integration of a new ERP system to ensure accounts are mapped properly and that project timelines are met
  • Work closely with the FP&A team in development of Operating & Capital Budgets
  • Act as a mentor to the Staff Accountants within the AA group
  • Enforce proper accounting methods, policies & procedures
  • Protect organization’s value by maintaining confidentiality of financial information
  • Special projects as assigned
Position Requirements:Experience/Skill Requirements
  • Proven knowledge of Accounting principles, practices, and standards
  • Possess solid communication, technology, organizational and analytical skills
  • At least three years’ experience working as an Accountant
  • Advanced computer skills, including Excel; knowledge of Workday, Lawson, Sage a plus
  • High attention to detail & accuracy
  • Adept at working under pressure
Education/Certification Requirements
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting
  • Accreditation as a certified public accountant (CPA) or certified management accountant (CMA) are preferred
