Senior Accountant - Sports Media / Sports Betting

New York City or Nashville

Looking for an opportunity to help shape and grow a company within an exciting and rapid growth industry? This role will be responsible for a wide range of accounting and finance functions, including ownership of critical business processes and the responsibility of executing these processes from the beginning to the end. Reporting directly to the US Financial Controller, you will help build a best in class, scalable accounting function to support rapid growth. What You Will Do In This Role

  • Manage monthly accounting close procedures and produce month-end deliverables (financial reporting packages, P&L variance analysis, account reconciliations, etc.)
  • Track monthly revenue and analyze related KPIs using various partner databases and platforms
  • Manage accounts receivable by applying monthly payments from customers, following up on payment discrepancies, and producing monthly A/R aging reports
  • Record and reconcile monthly cash balances and maintain cash flow analysis (e.g. monthly/quarterly forecasting, cash burn analysis)
  • Process vendor invoices, ensuring they are recorded accurately and paid timely
  • Work closely with other departments to understand the nature of expenses and ensure all documentation is in compliance with company policy
  • Prepare detailed monthly actual vs budget variance reports to inform decisions made by key stakeholders within various department across the business
  • Participate in development and detailed review of annual operating budgets and performance projections
  • Maintain high quality internal controls and support document retention and organization efforts
  • Assist with monthly, quarterly, and annual sales and corporate income tax filings
  • Proactively identify issues and implement efficient processes to streamline accounting processes
  • Interact with auditors and facilitate interim reviews and year-end audits
  • Help with ad hoc projects across all aspects of the accounting function

Qualifications

What you'll need to succeed:

  • Undergraduate and/or graduate degree specializing in Accounting
  • 2-3 years of relevant experience; public accounting experience is a plus
  • CPA is preferred but not required
  • Significant understanding of generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP) and ability to research and interpret differences between GAAP and IFRS
  • High proficiency in Microsoft Excel and Google Sheets; experience with Tableau or other data visualization tools is a plus
  • Experience with financial reporting / accounting software is preferred but not required
  • High sense of urgency and ability to multitask, work independently, and meet multiple deadlines
  • Excellent self-management practices with a demonstrated ability to be self-directed, resourceful, and ask the right questions
  • Process-oriented with ability to adapt as new processes are rolled out
  • Comfortable communicating with teammates, customers, vendors, and other third parties
