Scientist: in vivo disease modelling

Location: Boston, MA

Position Summary:

The successful candidate must have a strong background in neuroscience research and animal modeling of neurological disorders. The Scientist hired will play a key role in development and optimization of our CNS therapeutics in preclinical animal models of neurodegenerative diseases and other neurological disorders. The neuroscientist will play a vital role in the company’s efforts to advance therapeutic development in this space. The candidate must be independent, goal oriented, have excellent communication skills and be willing to work towards defined milestones in a highly dynamic and fast-paced entrepreneurial environment.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Design, identify, establish, and execute experiments for in vivo preclinical rodent models of neurodegenerative diseases and other neurological disorders
  • Test efficacy and optimize administration of therapeutic candidates in rodent models
  • Experimental design, execution, data analysis and reporting for neuroscience research programs
  • Create and communicate integrative presentations of scientific strategy, data, and interpretation to audiences at different levels of knowledge and expertise
  • Develop collaborative relationships with key opinion leaders and CROs
  • Maintain expert knowledge of state-of-the-art principles/theories
  • Represent the organization as key technical contact on contracts or projects requiring cross-functional coordination inside and outside of the company
  • Key contributor to high-quality, regulatory documents and scientific publications/grants
  • Oversee and manage day-to-day activities of Research Associates and interns
  • Statistical analysis of EEG and Ephys data readouts on acquisition software
  • Visualize data for company’s investor presentations and pitches
  • Writing programs/coding for data analysis
  • Assist in the development of our preclinical and human EEG biomarker platform

Required Qualifications:

  • PhD in Neuroscience or relevant experience. Experience with animal models of neurodegenerative diseases or epilepsy highly preferred
  • Experience in CNS injury, epilepsies, retinal degeneration, ALS and/or other neurodegenerative disorders preferred
  • Familiarity with functional and behavioral experiments in neurodegenerative or neurodevelopmental disorders
  • Enthusiastic about contributing to the advancement of a start-up. The ability and strong desire to do what it takes to make things happen and self-starter attitude
  • Expertise in designing and independently executing broad sets of in vivo experiments required to develop and test novel therapeutics in neurological disease models
  • Animal behavior testing and survival surgery skills are a must
  • Highly skilled in rodent microsurgeries and statistics a plus
  • Track record of high-quality tissue processing, immunohistochemistry, microscopy, stereology and neuroanatomical analyses
  • Strong analytical, problem solving and creative thinking skills
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills, capable of conveying technical information in a clear and thorough manner
  • Positive can-do attitude, strong organizational and time management skills and flexibility to react quickly to changing research needs are required
  • Ability to work independently, goal oriented, attention to detail, commitment to quality and team player mentality is a must

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Minimum of 1-2 years of postdoctoral research or industry experience
  • Eager to work with highly skilled and dynamic teams in a fast-paced, entrepreneurial and technical setting
  • Experience with statistics/data analysis/MATLAB/R/Python is strongly preferred
  • Familiarity with technologies that power EEG and Ephys data acquisition software

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $90,000.00 - $110,000.00 per year
