Job Description

Primary Role:

To help all students at the secondary level develop skills in the areas of personal-social growth, educational planning, and career/vocational development


Qualifications:

  • Minimum of a Bachelor’s Degree
  • Current North Carolina counseling license, or be in process of obtaining
  • Previous counseling experience with children is preferred

Skills:

  • Ability to plan, coordinate, and evaluate the effectiveness of student programs
  • Highly organized and attention to detail
  • Ability to multi-task giving priority to the most important duties
  • Strong oral and written communication skills
  • Friendly and able to interact professionally and positively with staff, students, parents, and community members
  • Computer skills should include, at a minimum, keyboarding, email, databases, Word, and Excel

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Follow all Board policies
  • Maintain confidentiality of all student, parent, and staff information
  • Establish the school counseling program and develop activities and resources to implement the program
  • Coordinate counseling services for students
  • Provide individual and group counseling services to meet the developmental, preventive, and remedial needs of students
  • Consult and collaborate with parents, teachers, and other staff members to assist in meeting the needs of students
  • Monitors student academic performance, behavior, and attendance and facilitates appropriate interventions
  • Adhere to ethical standards of the counseling profession
  • Provides intervention strategies to teachers
  • May serve as a 504 Coordinator or a member of an IEP team
  • Coordinate the efforts of support services and outside agencies
  • Follow procedures for suspected cases of child abuse or neglect
  • Other duties, as assigned, by supervisor/administrator.
