Job Description

Hanover is looking for a Safety Manager who will be responsible for overseeing the safety activities of our multi-family building construction jobsites, to make sure that employees, subcontractors, and consultants within that setting comply with applicable safety regulations and Hanover’s policies. The Safety Manager will be responsible for facilitating compliance with occupational health and safety (OSHA) guidelines. The main goal is to ensure a safe working environment and prevent injuries and accidents.

Principal Duties / Responsibilities:

  • Lead the implementation of Hanover Safety policies and programs
  • Ensure development of Site-Specific Safety Plans for each project
  • Advise and lead employees on various safety-related topics
  • Act as the primary liaison to OSHA and other regulatory agencies
  • Monitor changes in OSHA, CAL-OSHA and WISHA regulations, adjust safety plans as needed and notify construction of the changes.
  • Prepare educational seminars and webinars on a regular basis
  • Review and continuously update existing policies and procedures
  • Adhere to all the rules and regulations
  • Work with HR and the Vice President of Safety and Administration to set up a new employee on-boarding process for safety
  • Enforce preventative measures
  • Periodically check each jobsite to confirm all the employees and subcontractors are acting in adherence with rules and regulations
  • Review reports on accidents and violations and determine causes and supply solutions
  • Oversee and monitor 3rd party safety companies

  • Scaffold Layout Plan
  • Vertical Transportation Plan
  • Environmental Action Plan
  • Fire Protection Plan
  • Storm Protection Plan
  • Security Plan

Crane Safety Consultant Management

  • Consistently review the crane safety consultant(s) quality, dependability, and availability
  • Manage 3rd party crane inspector relationship
  • Ensure field teams are properly scheduling and documenting Crane and Material/man hoist inspections.

Third Party Safety Consultants

  • Identify companies qualified to perform 3rd party safety inspections in all regions.
  • Manage relationships with 3rd party safety consultants by consistently conducting performance reviews, monitoring pricing, and making sure they are available as needed
  • Conduct initial walks with new 3rd party companies and period walks with all 3rd party companies
  • Review all 3rd party consultant safety reports and assure timely correction of deficiencies by project teams.

Review and approve Subcontractor Safety Prequalification forms

Monitor and support the projects’ safety orientation process

Review and accept all subcontractor safety plans.

Attend Major Subcontractor Safety preconstruction meetings and provide guidance as needed

Monitor Hanover Weekly Safety inspections and toolbox talks for consistency and quality

Ensure our site teams are constantly monitoring safety and performing weekly safety inspections

Track, facilitate and monitor staff safety training and certifications.

Support Risk Management with claims, and job-related insurer requirements.

Qualifications

  • 7 years of experience as a Safety Manager or relative experience
  • Experience in commercial construction; Multi-family preferred
  • Excellent knowledge of legislations and procedures
  • Excellent knowledge of potentially hazardous materials or practices
  • Experience with writing policies and procedures for health and safety
  • Familiarity with conducting data analysis and reporting statistics
  • Proficient in MS Office
  • Working knowledge of safety management information system
  • Outstanding organizational skills
  • Critical thinker and problem-solving skills
  • Team player
  • Good time-management skills
  • Great interpersonal and communication skills
  • BSc/BA in safety management or relative experience
  • Certificate in occupational health and safety
  • Willing to travel extensively
