Job Description

Job title: Rotogravure First Press Operator

Location: Madison, WI

Department: Rotogravure

Reports to: Manufacturing Supervisor

Shift: 12 hour nights

1. Job Overview

Operate the Rotogravure 10 color press in a safe and controlled manner that will ensure the safety of others and the quality of products being made.

2. Job Dimensions

AF Madison has a staff of around 150 co-workers. The Rotogravure Department is comprised of Operators and Assistants, as well as Ink Technician and Cylinder Technicians in support roles.
This position is full-time position supporting a 24/7 operation.
This role has no direct reports

3. Principal Accountabilities

Rotogravure Press Operators maintain the following accountabilities:

Setup and run Rotogravure press to meet production requirements
Prepare press for jobs by having trolleys, ink and coating ready to go into press
Observe press while its running to make sure inks are full, viscosity is accurate, coatings are mixed and substrates are webbed up in the press
Set and monitor color, register and repeat lengths according to customer specifications
Distinguish quality colors while running job and setup
Troubleshoot web handling and printing problems
Setup and run adhesive laminator as needed to meet quality and production requirements
Follow procedures and process specifications
Load and unload cylinders
Inspect quality and identify and correct defects
Troubleshoot equipment and production issues
Follow documentation procedures and ensure paperwork is complete
Ensure quality of products produced while job is running
Follow all safety rules and procedures
Communicate effectively with other team members and departments
Assist in training other personnel

4. Qualifications/Requirements

Knowledge and Experience

3 years web handling experience
2 years press experience (Rotogravure preferred)
Knowledge of metric conversion

Education and Certifications

High School diploma or equivalent

Job Specific skills and abilities

Prior experience in printing, web handling, and/or manufacturing is preferred
Accurate measurement skills; knowledge of metric conversation
Basic mechanical ability
Solid communication and teamwork skills
