SUMMARY

Under the direction of the Brake area Supervisor this individual helps coordinate, sets-up, adjust and operate all sizes of press brakes including robotic brakes to perform a wide variety of forming, notching, bending, and punch operations on a diversified line of work. The Robotic Brake Operator determines proper dies, setups of dies, setup of gauges, and adjustment of ram stroke to form all types of parts to proper angle and length that meet or exceed customer specification. Ability to determine forming sequence of multiple hit parts without the use of work instruction. They will set-up and adjust computer program for proper robotic brake operation. They will write work instructions once part setups have been established. Work from drawings, patterns, templates, and specifications. Use fernier, protractor, indicator, radii gauges, etc. Will train others in various critical brake operation techniques. Maintains and keeps work area safe, clean and organized. Proceed with minimum supervision and instruction. Reports to the Brake Area Supervisor.


Essential Duties And Responsibilities
include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  • Selects, Positions, and aligns dies in machine ram and bed.
  • Turns setscrews or bolts to fasten clamp bar that holds dies in position.
  • Writes part programs and stores in machine.
  • Lays out or details layout on work stock from blueprints.
  • Positions work piece manually or with crane.
  • Set-up and adjust computer program for robotic brakes
  • Converts metric to decimal conversions for set-up and running specifications
  • Starts machine to lower ram or depresses pedal to activate ram that bends or cuts metal.
  • Verifies dimensions of work piece and make adjustments if necessary.
  • Performs visual inspection and verification of parts for defects
  • Train others in critical brake operation techniques and verifies that the work is done to customer specification.
  • Rework parts as needed prior to shipment with a focus goal of zero rework of
  • Reports all brake problems, inaccuracies in brake setup, non-conforming parts and inventory issues to Brake Supervisor.
  • Keeps work area safe, clean and organized at all times.
  • Helps handle customer inquiries, schedule changes and expedites.
  • Demonstrates effective communication with lead and plant leadership.
  • Attention to detail with a focused goal of zero rework.
  • Assisting Supervisor / Engineering in developing processes that will improve operations.
  • Material handles in the area and can provide finished packaging

Qualifications
Education and Experience High school diploma or general education degree (GED); or two to three years prior brake operator experience, computer brake set-up experience with a combination of wide variety of traditional brake press operation experience that vary in size, application, tooling and tonnage. Electric air bend understanding. Must have a track record of consistency demonstrating an ability to read, interpret and understand what to do with the call outs on custom job shop metal working blueprints, engineering remarks and convert those blueprints from metric to decimal. Strong organizational skills as well as strong work ethic, ability to work overtime. Ability to multi-task and set priorities. Good interpersonal, verbal, written and electronic communication skills. Proven track record of producing quality work. Ability to interact with tool room, QA inspection, Engineering and Operations on new product development, process improvement and corrective action. Solid works experience is a plus.
Language Skills Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos. Ability to read and interpret blueprints. Ability to write simple correspondence. Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations and to other employees of the organization.
Mathematical Skills Ability to add, subtracts, multiply, and divides in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Converts metric measurements to standard and back to metric.
Reasoning Ability Ability to apply commonsense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions. Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.
